My 71 Duster work in progress

Been through enough training sessions and read enough Material Safety Data Sheets on absoption to last a lifetime, but never heard that one! ;) The effects on the brain are bad enough, but the kidneys and liver really take a beating from solvent absorption. I know quite a few guys who manage to...

Over 6 Million Unsafe Vehicles on Canadian Roads, Says Transport Canada

A B.S. article just meant to put some fear into people. Very little info, zero solutions, just "unsafe vehicles" to get one's attention. Transport Canada should take an actual survey, talking to garages, inspecting mechanics, and tow companies if they really want some eye opening numbers on...

    What are you working on?

Whoa! Put some box connectors around those yellow wires going into the panels!

    ... and then this happened

10 years old. Roofer came back, found three holes in the valley flashing on the dormer, and at least three broken boards under the shingles. And a trashed chimney, which hasn't acted as an actual chimney since 2010. It's getting leveled to below the roofline and sheeted over. The vent stack has...

    ... and then this happened

Guardian Tree was on-site just before 8AM, and by 10AM they were moving the bucket truck and crane onto the next job. The clean-up crew was gone by 10:35. Only trace amounts of sawdust, the odd branch and a stump left behind. The crew of 10 kicked some *ss. No visible holes in the roof, but some...

I:d just as soon take the $15k agreed value payout. And the garage itself is covered for well over $40k! Plus contents.

That's my thinking. Both trunks had a lean towards the house, and most of the canopy cover was over our yard, so we relied on the experts. A different tree service will be removing the carcass - our guy has his hands full out in the county. The new company said the strap did what it was supposed...

We had just finished taping and mudding in the upstairs bathroom and rear bedroom the day before. Not even a coat of primer on the drywall yet. But, it does make it easier to see the water damage. The old house took the impact well, considering... and it wasn't the horrific noise that you'd...

    ... and then this happened

Happened Thursday. The initial Restoration coordinator was out within two hours of our call, but he told us there were going to be a lot of claims, and it might be a couple days before anything happened. A buddy with a chainsaw cleared away my ramp, but he didn't want to touch the big stuff...

The maple in our side yard decided it wasn't going to take the high winds anymore. Yup, that's our house underneath there. There are unconfirmed reports of a tornado in the area, and judging by the branches, limbs and trees in and around our place, the reports might be accurate. Until the tree...

    Dottie...

That's the frightening part... We went for a two hour walk immediately after that pic. 'Walk" is only loosely used when discussing Dot: it's more like a "Hurry up, old man! I've got places to be!" We weren't in the house five minutes and she brought me her leash in a "ok, break time is over"...

    Another one...

Dottie has figured out how to open the gate from the backyard. Ivy can't be bothered with the intricacies of a gate latch mechanism... She'd rather try and knock the post down.

"Nothing to tell, really" I think that line might qualify as one of the great understatements of the year. ;)

    Dottie...

Coming up on 14 months... 47 lbs of Best Friend, right there. Frightingly smart, more energy than we know what to do with, and still scared of her own shadow. This dog could wear out the Energizer Bunny. :)

57 lbs (so far) of muscle & love. Just over 8 months old. Smart, friendly & STUBBORN! If Ivy doesn't want to do it, Ivy won't. Miss Noneck has made herself at home. Still a little shy about sudden, loud voices, none of the other traces of her abuse are visible. She's a doll. The face washes...

    Never mind cutting corners

I see pictures of someone's failed project. Probably one along the lines of "My wife says it's me or that car!" kind of project. Whoever has it now likely threw all the parts - or at the least the ones they could hang on there quickly - on the car to give the next sucker some semblance of what...

    What are you working on?

I bought some PT lumber for a neighbour's gate two weeks ago. We picked through the piles ourselves, to get the best we could find, but it's still all slightly better than garbage. Very pricey garbage.
