I've got the pulley puller and the case is already split. I'm waiting on the time to set up the press to remove the rotor, then the bearing comes off. I've seen that a small bearing puller is what you need to pull the bearing.
It takes a while to get there but eventually he does
You do everything your kids want, right?
My 2016 VW GTI only has 21k on it. I've been tempted to sell it to the local VW dealer, they offered a good price, but I talked myself out of it. Like you said this car will last me the rest of my life, and my conscience won't let me buy a Shelby, so...
My GTI did that too. The fiberglass spoiler and flats on the rear bumper look like the front end of your car.
One winter it snowed and froze, then thawed but not completely, snowed more, and froze again, and when that melted off the clear coat had pretty much set itself free from the...
The alternator is pretty much shot but I think it's rebuildable. The rotor won't even turn with the case split. I tried knocking it out (after releasing the bearing retainer) but no luck, and I couldn't find anything to rig it up in the press either. But that bearing is at least worn out, at...
That seems like a good way to demonstrate the meaning of manufacturing tolerance and the concept of tolerance stack-up.
Personally I wouldn't weld panels together unless they are on the car. Half the time they end up mis-aligned anyway.
I only had time to get the alternator about half apart - I think it's going to turn out to be junk. I could only turn the rotor about 1/8 of a turn. OTOH it was also full of trash that I shook out of it. I'll get it fully split apart tomorrow and will know more.
I found a 69 date stamp so...
I've got an alternator off the parts car that looks like OEM on the car and that's not necessarily a good thing.
I think it's full of Texas because it mostly won't spin.
I think I'll take that apart tonight and see if it's salvagable. A rebuilt round back is $140 with a $40 core. I've got a...
I just wanted to replace all the wear items.
I am drawing the line at disassembling the vent window frame beyond replacing all that plastic liner stuff. E-bodies don't have those so you didn't get that kind of fun.
Supposed to be a 509 purple shaft. Definitely hydraulic, definitely purple.
72 440, not HP
Anybody you know? Jefferson Road was a C-body plant.
I thought I took photos of the top of the head but didn't - 346 heads, iron adjustable rockers.
Next is to make sure rolling it over isn't going...
Engine stuff ...
Actual dual valve springs
Looks oily. Hopefully just stupid rich.
It definitely looks rich on this side too. Heads have at least a homebrew porting job from the looks of it. Can see grinding where they thinned around the valve stem area and the port looks like it's been...
I bought all the hardware but at least some of it looks like a grinder is needed to replace the rollers. Easy enough, but where's the piece to replace what you have to grind off? I have to be missing something.
And by "all the hardware" I mean I loaded up every piece part I could find on...
Running out of small tasks here.
Anyone have experience rebuilding/reinstalling side glass?
I painted (satin black) the battery tray and braces, installed those - probably should have waited but oh well. I don't remember ever having to remove a b-body battery tray for reasons before so...
My Duster still sounds like somebody shaking a can full of rocks until it gets up to pressure. No idea why, it did the same thing with two different sets of lifters so I try to remember to not rev the engine until the gauge pops up from zero.
Writing it down for posterity, you have to leave the distributor in too or you gotta pull the oil pump drive, and maybe the bushing too if it's loose. I don't know where that bushing could get to but not having to figure that out is better.
I gave in to peer pressure and went ahead and painted the reflector area white before finishing them up and installing them.
Prepping the battery box/supports for paint and thinking about pulling the timing cover off the engine to see if the chain is worn out or not. Next steps will follow...
