Correcting A Few Things

68R/T

I got drunk and swallowed my teeth, now
There were a few things about my latest acquisition, (the Hee-mee car) that I wasn't totally happy about. One of them being the Gio inspired trunk seal installation. As this picture shows, someone did a nice job of installing it in the wrong location, similar to someone, (ahem) that occasionally shows up here.

As you can see the seal is neatly tucked into the rain trough;

After about an hour & a half to remove remnants of the old seal and glue, we move on to installing the new seal. The best method to hold them in place during installation is to steal some spring-clip clothespins from the missus. I don't have either, so I used some small plastic clamps. Which I only have 4 of. With enough clothespins installation shouldn't take more than 10 minutes. But I could only do about 2 feet at a time. So it took me about a half hour to get these results;

And wa-lah, we now have an un-Gio-ed trunk seal. :D

Can't say I have ever seen a truck seal installed that way before....too funny! :D Looks much better now!

This is only the second one I've seen like that. A little anecdote; The seller of this car wasn't the installer of the seal, in fact, he wasn't even aware of it, but I just HAD to tell him the story of the first one that I'd ever seen. :D

LOL nice location for a seal...fits like a 318 pan on a 360

as for "clamp"s ..got a cheep good one for ya..wallmart or any office supply store..grab those big black notebook clamps..ya know the ones used in place of a massive paperclip....i use them for all sorts of clamping and gluing in various sizes..the big ones are just about perfect for a seal like that

I betcha the run-off when it gets washed goes where it's supposed to go now... :)

I've always used plain old masking tape to hold everything in place while the elephant snot sets up.
Nice job. Did you send any pics to Gio?

You old !@#$%^^&*. I still smile every once in a while about that screw up but how does that happen on a hemi restoration?. They take it to a chevy guy?.

I didn't ask if he was chevy or furd guy, but he did say that this was his first Mopar. :D
