Wallet VIN decoder cards?

Like I said, cost will depend on demand. If I do 20, it's going to cost a lot more per piece than if I do 100.

I sent one side of the card to DCF to show to the printer. It sounds like the printer's pretty busy at the moment and I've not heard back, though DCF could be furiously working on duplicating the other side in Photoshop so he can just make 'em himself. :D

I'm just kidding!

:D
I HAVE been wanting to recreate the graphics that we used on the T-Shirts to use in place of the web address you had - or at least just the web address in the same font as what we used on the t-shirts.
I can do it in about a half hour. As soon as I find a half hour. :P I'll try that this afternoon.

I did get some info. - heavy cardstock with a UV coating will hold up very well. The print will never come off. The edges can wear, but laminate isn't much better unless you go with that real heavy duty laminate that'll cut you open if you leave a sharp corner. :o

I can get 100 printed off and sent directly to you.
Hell, I can probably get 500. Ya know, if you need to shim a table leg or something..

I could do the graphics end of it here using the posted pic of the T-shirt, or even the animated .GIF at the top of the site in a screen cap. I've got the time. :D

I was using the really-heavy laminate and cutting the corners by hand with a scissors to make it easier to get them into and out of the wallet, as well as to avoid injury. Shoot me a mail or a PM with total cost, etc. I was getting about $5.50 each on eBay (shipped) when I was doing the old ones; I'd like it to be lower for board members. No problems with double-sided printing, I assume?

I have the font I can send to you.

if I remember correctly, the challenge with the t-shirts was doing the white outline.
I did that by creating a centered shadow and making it solid. Worked a treat. I'll be damned if I can find the file though. I've turfed Photoshop from this computer too.

Double sided printing is easy.
We can get rounded corners too, but it would be better to round the corners of your border as well.

I was thinking the font isn't too far from Comic Sans, but if you've got an actual .TTF file, send it and I'll use it. I assume you want to stick to the orange, maybe with a black border so it will show up better on the white?

Yep. that'll do great.

OK, so here's my thinking and correct me if I'm wrong: since this is going to still be the original size (business card) and not credit-card size the rounded corners probably aren't necessary at all. All the originals were credit-card size after lamination but were printed on business-card stock, 3.5" x 2". If you can't get a business card out of your wallet without wounding yourself, you should probably stick to Tiddly Winks and stop building cars. :D Also, I'm pretty sure I can leave the "www." off the web address in order to make "Moparnuts.com" more prominent. You didn't have it on the T-shirt or the banner, so it should be good, right?

Believe it or not, I still have the original .PSD files from the ScatPack era! :hmmm: The design changed in there considerably, so I'm starting with the Moparnuts .JPG files instead. It's just less hassle. If there are any other changes in there you'd like to see, DCF, let me know before I get too far!

Hey Doc I have a 67 Plymouth Belvedere II, 2dr HT VIN if you wanna use it. The car is spread halfway around the world by now. I know for sure the rear is under a '66 Coronet vert in Alabama, the hood is up in Kansas on a 67 Satellite, and the front fenders are up in New York on a '66 Belvedere.

The rest of the shell made it to the scrapper in 3 trips in the bed of my truck.

The VIN card doesn't cover 1967 models. As I recall, there were too many variables to make it all fit.

No, one side is '68-'69, the other is '70-'74. Chrysler fumbled with their VINs enough in the '60s that to make it pocket-sized, something had to go. Prior to '68, the production plant was a number. I could squeeze that into the card if you're also going to carry a jeweler's loupe around with you. :D

DCF: I hate this font, but I'm doing what I can with it. If I ever meet Kristen, I'm going to punch her in the uterus.

:D

Sans www is perfect.
The bigger, the better.

I used that font for the window decal artwork.... That didn't happen... :shifty:

Despite being a TTF, regular options like "Bold" aren't available. What I really don't like about it, though, is the character spacing... it makes it difficult to thicken the letters without some running together. What I did was do the type in a much-larger resolution, apply the border, then shrink it to fit in the corner. I think it looks alright; the big thing is that it's got to be legible above all else.

The image as-is is so close to fitting the template you sent me it's almost funny. I literally need to shrink it 3 pixels vertically and 1 pixel horizontally to be completely inside the blue line (that's literally the amount of overlap; 2 pixels on top, 1 on the bottom, and 1 pixel on the RH side)... not bad at 300 pixels per inch resolution!

I'll e-mail you a sample of the new version.

Now, here's a question for everyone interested in one. Please chime in with your thoughts!

What would be best? The Mopar Performance logo?

MoparPerfLogo.jpg

The "current" Direct Connection logo?

DIRCONNECTION_LOGO.jpg

Or the classic Direct Connection logo?

will there be a mopar kick back in a law suit with using their logo without consent?

just thinking out loud...

the classic one is the best in my .02

but if there is alot of color on the card then the new one would work.

Classic, no doubt. Do your homework on copyright infringement laws. Chrysler has no sense of humor about such things.

Copyrights don't bug me much... they're so tightly-controlled they leave enormous loopholes, believe it or not. Anyone remember the Escort SS? I can work around it.
