My other Passion

I have always loved dogs, and got involved with rescue dog transports awhile back. Rescues pull dogs out of high kill shelters, and a series of us volunteer drivers will transport them to the rescue or to a foster home. It's easy and rewarding as well, you meet a lot of wonderful dogs, but don't have time to get attached.

This guy was an emergency pull with nowhere to go, so he's been with us for a week. He goes to rescue this saturdayand letting him go is going to be tough. As badly as he's been treated I don't know how he can stand humans, but he loves everyone. The picture is big so I'll just attach it.

Awwww, now there's a man after my own heart! I have always loved dogs, and am a retired veterinary receptionist (almost 30 yrs worth). As you've probably guessed by my sig pic, Mike and I have been owned by the Great Pyrenees breed for 37 yrs. That pic is our "heart" dog, Cruiser, who, after a six year recession, succumbed to osteosarcoma in Apr. 2007.

In Feb. of 2008, we drove over to Erie, PA to rescue a 16 mth old boy from a shelter there..........first time for us for a rescue dog. His name is Grizzly, and he's become a steadfast and loved member of the family. He's changed so much from the scared and confused boy we brought home.

IMO, rescuing a pet is a very rewarding experience for all! 65, you are doing a wonderful thing. Help is needed in all areas. That Saint looks like a wonderful, big mushy guy, as so many of them are.........I can imagine how difficult it will be to part with him.

Here is Griz, right at home on 'his' loveseat:

would you please find me a dane with a brain?.....mines dumber than a rock

that right there is what ma wanted .

what a sweetheart, If I had running water out at the shop I'd vie for fostering pets (preferably dogs).

Whitney was labeled "vicious" at the vet we adopted her from. dunno where the heck that came from.

Good on you 65. :) That poor dog was lucky to find you, sweet gentle giants they are. Neighbors a few houses down have a St. Bernard, great dogs.

We have talked about getting another dog to keep Cuda company once the cat has gone, certainly it would be a rescue dog.
