Rusty's not very quiet cuda progress

Yea, got a little project, my friends jeep, replace the front grille!20260802_163857.jpg20260802_163903.jpgAfter that he's selling & already ha my next little project, an 06 jeep with a rusty roof, back to sucking rust dust again!!!
 
Wow I'm old, lasted bout 2 hours, 1st 4 bolts were nice & easy right up top, after that every bolt was a battle, got 1/2 my tools out there already, Got bout 10 more out & started on 3 that will probably take an hour! no room to spin the wrenches, got those at least broken free & my arms had had it, so I did some easy work removing the headlights.
Dang why did I volunteer for this!!!
 
So I get my butt up early to try & work on the jeep a bit, got out there at 8:30, usually about the time of my second dream.
Well by 9 I'm already soaking in my own sweat! got the rest of the bolts out & scanned the harness that goes across the top, got a few of the clips loose & hit the showers!
I think the headlight mounts have to come out to snake it back through???
Might be sept. before I do any more work.
Did I mention I hate the heat!
 
The portable a/c I recently got has been a game changer for me. The dehumidifier function keeps the garage pretty much like a climate controlled space. It also has a heater function, so I'm hoping it'll also be just as useful in the winter. It was around $500 from Walmart.

The job just got a tad bigger, now he's pulling much of the front end out to change the power steering pump!
It started as him coming to fish the wires out of the old grille???
Also brough over some plastic bumper/shield pieces to paint! 20260809_150403.jpg20260809_151557.jpg20260809_151608.jpgAll we had to do to finish orig. job was set grill in, fish wires & bolt it up!
 
Creep day!
A tad cooler & less humid, so today was paint some garbage day.
I forgot how slow the wire wheel process was when I started on the steering box!

Gave it about an hour, when mark showed up & said he really didn't care too much abut how it looked, so I gave it a bath in fantastic & got the paint out! 20260815_142309.jpg
A quick coat of rusty metal primer hopefully to seal it in? 20260815_150042.jpg
& then shot it with left over engine paint that was supposed to be for my steering links, never did get to that. 20260815_145229.jpg
Also shot a plastic bumper thingie, clear coat tomorrow! 20260815_135939.jpg
I think I should have stayed in retirement I'm tired!
 
Mark got an early (well for me) start, had the steering box in & started on the grille.
Only problem (well so far) is the U-nuts on the new grill wee smaller than the old, so have to loosen a couple to try & get the u-nuts off the old grille on the new, tight space???

I'm trying to remember how I got through stripping not one but 2 whole cars down to bare metal in my yard, hundreds of wire wheels, burnt out at least 2 drills, many many grinding pads & discs, broke one of the larger electric polisher/grinders & yet survived!
No way I could do half of one car now!

OK, back to the jeep!

OK, had to take half the work we did to get that u-nut on, put all that back together & cleaned up the headlight bezels, got one side done when the dinner bell sounded!
