Around467,480 Jeep Grand Cherokees and Dodge Durangos are being recalled,worldwide, to install new a relay circuit which prevents early death of the fuel pump relay.
The problem, which was found by the company rather than regulators, may cause the fuel pump to shut off, stalling the engine or preventing startup. It has been more common for the engine to not start; and the company is not aware of any related accidents.
Complicating matters is the fact that the relay is inside the integrated power module, a complex device. However, it does not affect other functions, including airbag deployment.
