I just watched it again last week.
I thought that it looked out of place, I was watching the "special edition DVD from the library and not my well worn VHS.
The special edition DVD includes lost footage like Elwood quitting his job at the glue factory, Elwood's secret garage for hiding the "Blues-Mobile", the cigarette packet that Elwood had jotted down the various names and addresses of the band, more dialogue between Elwood & Jake in general, and - GASP - the destruction of the gas station! Either version is a fun time though, but don't let your kids watch it by themselves on account of the profanity.
