Not the Durango, for now, the '03 Cummins wrapped in a POS Benz body. I fixed the A/C, wasn't really my idea, but my wife intended to travel with me to Carlisle this summer to visit her former mother-in-law who has since passed. Prior to her passing I patched it together with a new manifold line set, liquid line, drier and the other part of the liquid line with the high pressure hook up that I adapted from an '06-9 part. They are different enough that I had to cut and splice it back together with a piece of the old part, new part and rubber line. It blows cool, but anyone who has owned on of these early 3rd gen Cummins' knows the heater box is a steaming pile of MB garbage. I still have to pull that out and make secure the blend door in position where I get all the cold air I need. I was okay without the coolness for the last 4 years, but since I fixed it I plan on enjoying it. There are days I regret giving up my Super Duty, but I digress.

Since I was that deep into it and it only has 275K, I figured a new dash cap, way to cheap to pay $800 for a brand new dash, so a $150 dash cap filled the bill. It looks 1000% better than it did with the guts exposed. I also bought a new stereo with a DVD player, a new set of speakers, and best of all, a back up camera so I can hook up trailers without a spotter, getting out of the truck or driving by braille. Speaking of which a new rear bumper is on the list of future improvements. I plan on getting a console lid, a newer set of front seats, and a rubber floor mat to replace the carpet.

I'll get back to the 'Rango once my foot is fully healed...
Let me get into that, 3 weeks ago yesterday on 5/7 I bumped my trailer off the floor jack that was supporting it and knocked it on to my left foot. I looked at it and thought to my self, 'damn self that doesn't look really stable, you should get a better bite on that trailer' :toot:. In my stupidity I disregarded what was great advice and I believe, in my clumsiness, I bumped the trailer but I'm not sure because the very next thing I was aware of was searing pain shooting through my left foot and leg. Thank God, in such situations I keep my wits about me, I hollered for my son, screamed my be a better description of the noise that left my mouth. Quick thinking I looked down and saw the jack so I lowered it and started to jack it up when Jason showed up behind me and took over pumping the jack to relieve the pressure. Once I was clear I lifted my foot and fell onto my back writhing in pain. Howie, my youngest son came out as I fell over. He later told my wife, "mom, I think daddy is Superman cuz he didn't cry at all when the trailer was on his foot!" Well, I crawled into the house and my wife took me to the ER, x-rays and all revealed no broken bones, but the ER doc and the radiologist both said I really don't see anything but this one little spot, but we're not really sure and even if it is broken there's nothing we can do. Yesterday was the first day I was able to put my full weight on it for short periods of time. Good news, no permanent damage and I'll be walking around Carlisle this summer. Yay! :D

The reason there was a floor jack and not a trailer jack supporting the trailer is the last trailer jack broke in an upright position so I remove it and threw it across the yard. I do have a nice, new Curt jack sitting in the dining room that will be installed most likely this weekend. My screw up cost me exponentially more than the $25 jack that would've prevented this..

Stretch did a heater core on his father-in-law's '98 weekend before last. Just a word of warning: If the dash structure itself is also plastic like it is on the older trucks, and it was exposed to sunlight and heat for any amount of time, expect the worst should you need to disassemble it. His was originally a CA truck, so it spent some time in the blazing sunshine and heat as well. The plastic dash structure beneath the pad literally crumbled, and there was already a dash cap over the remains of the pad--which were, uh, sparse. That truck literally needs a whole dash assembly due to baking through the glass.

Glad to hear your foot's taking some weight again. Man, that's been an ugly ordeal for you.

I had to order the 2-3/4'' dash speakers so the cap isn't on yet, but this is what it looks like now. There isn't a whole lot left to glue the cap to, so I may end up putting a dash mat on top to reduce vibrations. When they gave the Ram the '06 facelift the dash was completely redone again and those don't seem to have the same issue as the previous generations.

The foot has been an ordeal, but those little knee scooters make life easier. By using one I can work in a semi limited duty so that made life easier, without the financial burden.
