Winter Olympics opening ceremony

It WAS pretty cool - some stuff dragged on, but once they got in to the cultural presentation, they did some amazing things with lights, video, etc.

The guy running through the prairies was wild effect. and the flying...

They did amazing things with the rings in the middle - they took on new purpose every time the theme changed.

The fiddlers, tappers, stompers, cloggers, etc was fun, but difficult to hear. I'll bet it was better there.

I think my only issue is that they tended to run too long with some of the effects...

Was not impressed at all with Gretzky. Smile for Chirssakes!
That stupid, creepy, predator closed lip grin doesn't cut it.

I am worried that the world now sees us as a bunch of natives, punk fiddlers, and flying fairies.

The slam poet was pretty good though.

I enjoyed it, but you're right. The Great One could have smiled a bit more. Maybe the Poly Grip was failing?

Being from the East, the fiddle playing peaked my interest. The goofy looking guy with the beard and tartan semi-kilt is Ashley McIssac from Cape Breton, one of the best players I've ever seen. If his heart was in it, he could be an absolute tops Celtic fiddle player. He puts on good show, but some of his new-wave stuff is a little out there.

I liked who they selected to carry the flag and the torches into the stadium. Bobby Orr, Donald Sutherland, Betty Fox, Rick Hanson, Nancy Greene, etc...
Bobby Orr really doesn't look much different than he did in his playing days.

I like Ashley McIsaac - but I thought he was an odd pic to represent Canada to the world.
He is certainly a great talent - just a little wild.
But then again, being Canadian, I'm sure he says, "Please,' and "Thank you." ;)

k.d. Lang looked like a linebacker in that suit but a linebacker that can really belt out a tune.

Gretzky looked like he wanted to drop the torch and run out into traffic if someone didn't hand him a beer quickly. Wait....that was me.:shifty: The ceremony was good, though.

Visually, it was really good & I enjoyed some of the performances.

I have to wonder, however why they chose an Aussie to produce a show that was all about presenting Canadian culture to the world. The best production people in the world live in this country and we shop a show like this offshore?

Makes no sense to me.

Yeah, I wondered about that too. Maybe he lives in Canada?

Right now, Canada's men's hockey team is handing it to Norway. Not an easy job tho', Norway is a big capable team and the their goalie is pretty quick and on his game.

Final score 8 - 0 for Canada.
To their credit, Norway was largely out played, but they didn't give up.
Canada played well as a team, considering the staggering amount of talent on the team.

Yeah - can't wait to see how they perform against some real competition.

I too really enjoyed Norways stick-to-it-ness, given the fact they didn't really have a hope.
