WHY WHY WHY?!?!?!

:wtf: Why, when I think I found something I want do, does something come totally out of left field? I received a phone call last night from an old boss/good friend, from the refinery, and he offered me a GREAT job... :hmmm:
Problem #1: It's in NJ, and I'm in Tx
#2 My wife's family, and my dad and step-mom are in Texas.
#3 I'd have to move back to (or close to) the Socialist state

Good thing #1 Almost twice the money (almost 80% more than I was making, and more than I am now)
#2 Guaranteed job
#3 Benefits, 401k, etc :hmmm:
#4 I loved that job :Fresh Meds:

I'm thinkin I need to take it, what do ya'll think???
I know it should be a no-brainer, but I hate moving, and I'd have to leave my wife and kids until I got a place up there. Apt's and rentals out, I have 2 dogs and a cat

I just turned down an offer of about $10K more than I make now from a former employer of mine with whom we're all familiar. Didn't want to move back to Atlanta.

That's true of Atlanta for me, but Mom's not a kid anymore (her boyfriend had a stroke Wednesday--and no, that's not joke fodder so let's not go there) and most of my immediate family is nearby... I don't want to get "that call" and be almost 1200 miles away.

Man that's a tough call....I don't know if I could uproot my family, especially if kids are established in schools.

But the money sounds good with excellent benifits...so if a similar job can't be hoped for, or found locally, then I'd have to sit down and crunch the numbers and talk things over to death with friends and family.

My 2 cents for what it worth....good luck.:)

Yeah, I'd weigh all things besides the money. If things still add up for everyone involved, then go for it.

On the plus side for you alone:
you love the job

and that can be good fro everyone else but it's mostly good for you.

on the plus side for everyone:
benefits
401K
guaranteed job - but for how long? Do you know? I'm not questioning it, but it's a question you should be asking.

as for family, ask them what they think the downside is and if they can overcome any problems presented by them.
If your dad is like most other guys, he'll see the logic in moving.
Your wife may not want to leave her family - or maybe she's packing already. I don't know. That's a dynamic you'll have to feel out.

Kids will kick up a fuss, but they are also very resilient. Plus, if they have access to the internet, it'll be like they never moved. You'll just have to put a stop to the "I'm going to call Becky and tell her to get on MSN so we can text" phone calls. :D I laugh but it happens here all the time.

I live in Joisey.
I have for my entire life.
The state government is going even further to sh!t and I don't see it getting any better unless you're on welfare and live in Newark or Camden.
Cost of living (property taxes, income tax) is getting out of control.
In my daughter's school, 12% of the students speak Urdu, 9% Spanish and 5% Pajabi as a first language.
But, gas is cheap.
My 2¢

I don't mind NJ,
That right there tells us you ain't thinking straight!!!!

Dude, nobody but you can make this call, you gotta do what's best for you and the family. Just think it out thoroughly, and be sure it is what you really want BEFORE you take the plunge!

Is the company in Jersey going to pick up the relocation cost? Permanent jobs in today's economy could mean that it is gone next week. You got to do what is right for you and your family. Peace on the home front is always worth more than dollars can do. I would really think this through. Been in the same kind of situation before. You got to look at the whole picture not just the pieces. Who knows, the right job situation in Texas could come by next week with the whole package but if you jump now what happens next month when thee next one comes along. You do what you gotta do but no-one can do that for you. Good luck with your family decision because that's what it needs to be. my 2 cents. :toot:

I could live in Delaware or Pa, the refinery is right on the river. Sorry Mr 340 I didn't mean it like that I still hate everything to do with NJ, but I could deal with it untilI found a place in an adjoining state. We're working it out now, and I'm talking to Bobby (my old boss) To make sure everything is as he says, and won't have any problems with his higher ups. It's still in the debate process

If your wife's family is in TX, you'd better have a very-serious discussion with her about this. Experience has taught me that pulling a woman away from her family makes for a very-unhappy woman.

No offense intended to those who live there, but I couldn't be offered enough to move back to the northeast. The time I spent living in eastern Pennsy was more than enough to make the "you ain't from around here" point.

dont forget to factor in that the cost of living in Texas is about half of what it is in Jersey and no crappy white stuff!!!!!

years ago I got a offer to go up to the north east but even with the supposed pay increase I could stay in Texas for a pay cut and have the same money... so weigh everything

None taken. The "You ain't from around here" goes anywhere. Ask the transplants in NC, where Cary is called Containment Area for Relocated Yankees.

Actually, I didn't run into that at all in Atlanta... but, then again, no one's actually from Atlanta. :D

Sorry Mr 340 I didn't mean it like that
Born and raised in the Garbage State, I take offense to NOTHING! :bwuhaha:

Even I'm looking to get out of here, I expect to be able to go about 3/4 miles west in the next 5 years or so, and just stare across the Delaware at this mess of a State.

On a side note, our Gov. stated publicly that he just realized that "you cannot spend more $$ than you take in"! What a dumbass...:shifty:

Yep me too, lived about 21 or 22 of my years in the Garbage State, no where near the cess pool commonly known as New York though. I'm really considering moving to Pa, the refinery is just south of the Walt Whitman Bridge, so I wouldn't have much more, if not less of a commute.

I did get some more details on the job, I'll be a mechanic (no waiting on customer approvals, or hoping that another vehicle comes in so I can make some money) job starts at $25/hr, progresses pretty quickly up to $29.65/hr, great benefit pkg, and they may be going Union in the not too distant future. So I'm thinkin a little harder now, but we'll see how it goes

Looks like I'll be headin' back to the Garbage state on Tuesday. Going solo now to feel out the deal and make sure everything is on the level.
Wish me luck :giggedy:

I f'n hate movin :doubt:

Good luck! I rarely admit this, but I was born in Newark. Never going back. Bashing Joisey aside, sounds like a good oppurtunity for you hope it all works out. Just don't try and make a left turn!
