Why so much brake dust?

65furyIII

Thinking unclean thoughts and
I have to spray the wheels of my mini van every weekend with wheel cleaner and scrub the H_______ out of them to get the brake dust off. Skipped last weekend and the wheels are totally brown.

The wifes Grand Am never has brake dust on the wheels. (of course mayby she doesn't use the brakes)

Is it cheap pads or what?

Higher quality pads dust less, at least thats what I found. Ceramic or metal based ones dust very little but will chew though cheap rotors in short order though. Really can't beat the oem ($) brake stuff for wear and dust. jmo.

The brakes are EOM, it only has 19,000 miles on it, it's a 2006 Caravan I bought new less than a year ago. I want to do something different when it comes time for new pads.

Go with the ceramic pads and quality rotors. We've found even the Premium organic pads or metallic composition pads dust heavily. Noise is sometimes a problem as well.

Don't cheap out on your brakes. Get the good stuff. :)
