If you got 'em used, did you have any expensive problems come up?

I may get one, they don't seem that bad as gas savers.

i have a 99 neon r/t and it gets over 30mpg driving semi-fast. best i can get out of it is 38 mph but that is in the fall when i dont have to run the a/c. i blew a tranny at the strip speed shifting but overall it has been very durable. the worst problem i have had with it is the damn sunroof kept going out. i bet i had it replaced 5 times while under warranty. i have a good one now but seldom use it because of fear of failure now that its out of warranty. has almost 100k miles and until the last oil change i had always used mobil 1 synthetic. mods i have/had are header, underdriven pulley, polished intake(inside), bored throttle body, afx ecu (7800 redline, no top end limit) iceman(dont use it because its so low to ground) and quick pipe intake. mods on neons are expensive for small gains imo. forgot to add that i bought it new.

Mine has been excellent. The only things I've HAD to replace are the spark plug wires twice and a strut (the rest were changed but just to match). Other than that, I've put ~40,000 miles on it since Nov. 03 without any other problems. On my last trip to Michigan, I averaged about 36 mpg. I never use the A/C. The mileage is too awful. One day I'll buy another but it'll be a 5-speed. The auto sucks in terms of fun.

Daughter has a 97 w/160k miles. Replaced a cam seal @ 150k.

Great gas-guzzler.

I have 2 of them both are DOHC motors, a 98 Sport sedan that I bought off lease from my Mother in law. It had 70k on it when I got it (abused 70k) needed tires and a head gasket. It now has 100k on it, and the trans is acting up but I have another one to toss in it when I get the urge ( it don't like third gear when it's cold), it's an automatic. Overall, I think it is a better car than my second one. 99 R/T coupe, this one just hit 40k, and it's been nothing but trouble from the get go. Had the clutch "explode" at 1,900 miles, had the cam seals replaced, had the headgasket replaced, had the sunroof break twice, last rail I installed lasted for about 2 dozen cycles, had to have the A/C condenser replaced, had the A/C compressor replaced, had the fuel tank sending unit replaced, had the computer replaced once, and flash programmed twice.
I know I'm forgetting somethings, but it's a real laundry list... The car is not beat on or otherwise abused, my point is it would seem the more abused these things are, the better they hold up. So look for something that has been run hard!!!
