After 3 weeks chasing an electrical problem in the New Yorker and thinking i finally got it fixed i lost 3rd gear yesterday going to a cruise after the Car Craft Nationals. [smilie=e: Guess i'm just blowing off steam because it seems as though my cars break 2-3 times more than any of my friends yet mine are driven much less hard and are generally much less performance oriented. Seems kinda frustrating. My buddies can go doing burn outs, bangin gears, runnin light to light and generally beating on there cars and all i do is drive from cruise to cruise and show to show and mine break going the speed limit down the highway!? [smilie=e: Hell, the New Yorker has only seen 1 burnout about 3 seconds long only because i had a buddy who didn't think it could do it. :D Anyone else feel like their cars hate them or maybe are possesed? Ok, rant off. BTW my roomate is gonna do the tranny for me so hopefully i can still make it to the Elkton show. I'm gonna be really bummed if i miss that one. [smilie=e:

Well, chances are good that the old girl sat more than she was driven, and that can lead to all sorts of things. Luckily, it is an easy fix.....:)

Guy i bought it from said the motor and tranny were both gone thru less than 2000 miles before i bought. He drove the thing to the 02 Nat's. Still has the sticker on the car. Guess his tranny guy sucks. :D

The gear-bangers usually have already gone through their cars and fixed all the silly stuff that can go wrong. Or it broke and they fixed it then. :D

Things are also a lot less catastrophic when you can fix it yourself too. Keep after it, the more skills you build, the less a big deal it is when something goes wrong.

Good luck Tim Roxanne and I are going to be there with the Duster.

Hey beeper are you going to make it the the Elkton show? I'll buy ya lunch! [smilie=e: [smilie=e: [smilie=e: [smilie=e: [smilie=e: [smilie=e:

Dave!

Probably used an aftermarket rebuild kit like B&M or TCI, and failed to use the flat TH400-style snap ring in the front drum. The thinner clutches and factory "wave-washer" snap ring will usually cost you third gear in short order.

Technically, you might be able to get away with the snap ring, but while it's apart I'd put a clutch kit in anyhow.

Glad to hear you are sticking with the car Tim. [smilie=w:
No car is without it's problems and fixin 'em is half the fun. [smilie=c:

the more ya fix the more ya learn..and for every part fixed is another off the short term list of what is likely to be broken in the time to come :P
