i would guess it stands for CHRYSLER CORP . the reason i ask is awhile ago i bought a 1973 parts catalog and on the binder it says CHRYCO instead of CHRYSLER .

whats a tooney ?

CHRYCO is Chrysler Corp. I believe it says that on the parts catalog because it covers everything made by Mopar that year. Mine says the same thing. And a toonie is the $2 coin from Canada ;)

And why do we call it a toonie?

Because when we released the one dollar coin, it had a picture of a Loon on it. So, naturally, it garnered the nickname, "loonie".

When the two dollar coin came out, it was equal to two loonies, soo..... "toonie"

Aren't was a colourful bunch of neighbours? :xl:

There was talk about a 5 dollar coin. Early rumours of it's nickname was "mo-fo stupid-ass government is getting kickbacks from chiropractors!" or something like that...

:doubt:

Actually, all of the border towns are starting to worry. We should see out dollar get up to about $0.80 US this year. That will slow the US dollars coming into these areas.

On the other hand, the old pastime of "going over the river" for gas, milk, and eggs will return.

Stuff is so much cheaper in Niagara Falls, NY.

If I send you us cash what do you do with it? Do you have to come across to use it or can you take it to the bank, spend it anywhere?
You canucks have a lot of our us cash floating in the economy like ppl in mexico do?, like our us hot rod cars? ;)

There's this Eskimo dude that makes runs into the states. We use the US money to buy stuff from him and then he uses it when he makes his runs.

Or we take it to the bank.

Just yanking ya!
I live 15 minutes from the border at Lewiston and Niagara Falls, NY.
When our dollar is doing well, it's worth the trip over to fill up the tank and grab some groceries and check out the deals at the outlet stores.
Stuff is pretty cheap over there compared to what we see for prices here.
If you know what you're looking for and know what the costs are you can save as much as 25% making a run over.
Even declaring it on the way back - 99% of the time, they don't even bother hauling you in to pay the tax and duty. It's not worth the cost of the paperwork.

Gio, send me your addy, and I will send you some non-stickers and a toonie and loonie and some other change.
I will wait til I get some good examples, k? :)

What happens if you take it to the bank? They give you that days market value? Would canadian store take it?

Canadian stores would take it GLADLY! And usually at a conversion rate the benefits them.

One of the best benefits of working retail or hospitality is buying US dollars out of the till at the rate they paid for it. Some places don't like their emplyess to do that, but the smaller places don't mind. I've worked in a lot of restaurants where it was fine to do and we even had a system where every one had a chance to buy what was in the till. First chance would rotate through the staff, and if they didn't want it, we'd go down the list until it was bought. The bosses were on the list just like everyone else.

Banks have a posted conversion rate and it changes on a regular basis.

I wondered what happened to us money up there. Here no way would a store take anything but us cash.

At Big Lots where I work our exchange rate is usually at .80 We get alot of Canadian customers and we accept Canadian money too. I hear alot about them getting nailed for PST and GST taxes when they bring furniture back over after buying it from us. So with the PST and GST is it really worth it over a certain limit?? I know you can only bring back so much over valuewise and all that.

By the way I like your $$$ better than ours:) We have pics of dead guys, you guys have a $5 with kids playing hockey:dance: Why can't we be that cool??:( :D
