Yep that hurricane Wilma really came through with a vengence!
Nobody expected such a huge storm. I finally have power at my beach place, but my house is still in the dark. All in all there was no huge damage beyond a broken window here at the beach and a mattress that got soaked and will need replacing.
That generator was a good purchase to say the least and I've been able to keep both fridges going and most importantly..the home theater...
I was very lucky...we live across the street from Biscayne Bay and the last hour and a half of the storm was straight out of the west...within 5 minutes of the storm switching from the south to the west, the street was under sea water. It took the sea-wall out within a half hour and I could see huge waves hitting against my neighbor's pool area and smashing into his driveway. Luckily, it didn't get much worse than that.
We were expecting a cat1 or at worse a cat2, but it came into Dade county as a catageory 3 storm. That's 90 to 100 sustained winds...it was quite a show. I had palm trees in the back of the house that snapped in two, and a 35 foot tall royal palm that was threatening to fall right into my den. It would have sliced the room in two. Needless to say, I'm soon having it cut down so I don't have to worry next year.
Don't worry....the Road Runner is safe! It spent the storm tucked away in the garage and no water reached the house. No tornados means no problem, so we got lucky.
Further north it was a total disaster because the storm went right through the downtown area...I'm sure you've seen video of the damage on the news.
But beyond having no power, everything is totally cool. To add insult to injury, last night the power came back on for the entire block...except my house and my next-door neighbor...very annoying. But that's all it is, since everyone is safe and sound.
I won't be on for a while, until I get all the cleaning done and fix the windows her at the beach, etc. but I wanted to let everyone know I was a-ok.
