Video and sound files?

OK I haven't done it yet, but I want to record a soundtrack of my car. What should I record it on, what software is best to handle sound, and how do I upload it to the board. Also want to do a video smokey and need to know the same things I asked above. My vidcam has software but can't upload more than 15 second clips.
