Valentine at the river

I took Valentine down to the Menominee River yesterday, to see how she'd react to open water. Her only previous experience was with the bathtub (hates it) and her "kiddie pool", which she loves. Obviously, she loves the water and has no fear of currents. This was taken with the zoom lens. The first swim was a little tentative but on this one she was out there for about 20 minutes, aimlessly cruising the river and nearly crossing it. I thought I might need a ride to Wisconsin to get her home.

So when someone asks you what breed she is, part sea otter might be appropriate. ;)
:D We'll add that to the list.

She's been given a lot of freedom lately and it's nice. If I'm in the yard, she stays pretty close now; I used to have to keep her on the chain because she'd be gone in a second otherwise. We walked probably 95% of the way to the river with no leash on her and she stayed within 50' of me the whole time. All that way through the woods, and not a single tick either!

I took Valentine back today, but there was a lot of river traffic and a ton of people there, so she stayed close to shore this time. There were a number of girls there, and all in bikinis... if you're gonna take the plunge off a bridge, you should wear a 1-piece bathing suit, ladies. Yes, your top will end up damned-near coming off otherwise, and you'll have a panicky fight to get it back in place before you surface (they all did manage to do it though). Great bunch down there today; one kid was doing some really-cool stunts off a rope swing he'd brought. I wish I'd have brought the camera.

It was a lot of fun to watch the younger crowd doing what we were doing 25 years ago.

That's great! Cuda always sticks close by also, she don't like to let me get out of her sight.:D
