A good friend of mine worked at this bodyshop. I talked to him an hour or so ago, everything in the shop is a total loss, including his tools.
He had no insurance coverage on them. :(
For the relatively few dollars it would have cost him per month, he's on the hook for replacing the tools, instead of being able to let an insurance company do it.
He had, what I would estimate, around $15k -$20k in his collection.

Sucks to not only loose your job, but also the ability to land another one.

Gotta agree. Insurance is one of the biggest wastes of money going. Right up to when you need it. Bloody shame, I know I'd be hard pressed to just cough up $20K to get rolling again.

Yeah - crappy deal for sure.

Gotta blend in with the chorus of voices regarding the insurance thing tho....bad mistake no doubt of that.

I've never worked for another shop when I didn't have at least some insurance coverage on my tools. Shit happens far too quickly to take that risk, as in this case.
He's screwed. He just plain doesn't have the money to go out and buy nearly half of what he would need to land another job in a bodyshop, if another job could be found.
