truck hunt begins

dodgedifferent2

hung like a stud field mouse and
my father is on a (used) truck hunt.

he wants a 4x4, regular cab, long box, over yr 2000 with a standard tranny

looking at the 3/4 ton area.
what do you guys suggest Hemi or Diesel? (leaning toward diesel)

its hard to find a standard. So is the automatic tranny still a weakling compared to a standard? Its goin to be a farm truck so it will see some heavy loads.

Dodge is the only way he will go

Diesel, and I believe the tranny has gone through a few revisions that make it a good choice now. Problem is the premium yah pay for diesel. Also, you may find that a quad cab is the same price used. ;)

Farm truck you say? Heavy loads? Choice is obvious...Diesel. Tons of em out here....a few even come with snow plows :D

the snow plow worries me. How much abuse has the front end and tranny taken.

Its mostly a wonder of tranny options. The club cab and long box makes for a looong truck. It is almost bigger then a c-barge or is it?

Thought i would update this adventure

Daddio just picked himself up a 2003 Dodge Ram 2500 4X4, 6 speed, HO Diesel. Its a major upgrade from the 318. hop in and gee the power is amazing. :D Now i have to convince him that i need to umm err tow something. :D

Kick ass.

I have driven both the 6 speed and the automatic of that vintage. The improvements in noise control and power boost are quite noticable over the previous powerplant and they flat out haul ass. Daddy has found a keeper.

I just went through the truck shopping cycle my self... diesel seams to really raise the price even if its got a bagillion miles on them... not to mention the price of dirty smelly stuff right now...but on the other hand Dodge has the cheapest resale price on the market so you might slide into a diesel for the price of a Chevy gas powered truck..

The diesels run forever. Theres one here with over 300 thousand on it and it still doesnt use oil. On its second tranny and clutch but that was operator error. Good choice.:hail:

If you want to feel power tell him to chip it and put a propane system on it :giggedy:
