Yep, trading my '81 SWB Truck minus drivetrain for a '79 Duster. No, that isnt a typo, its really a '79. For those that dont know, they offered a Duster package on the Volare that year. This is one of em.
Overall the car is pretty nice, except theres no grille. Has about 70k on it or so. Only problem? Busted rod on the Six! Rare as heck to fine one of those, I've only seen three counting this one.
Plans? Well, since the car is SOLID and decent, I plan to focus on the drivetrain. Gone will be the six and in its place I'll put a '69 318 (more on this in a minute), low-gear 998, and a police 8 1/4. Suspension will be from my '88 Diplomat (as will the 8 1/4).
The engine will be a '69 short block (those had higher compression than the later ones), topped off with a set of Magnum heads I bought recently. Plan on installing a decent cam (but its gonna be streetable) and Performer RPM for Mag heads.
The car is going to serve three purposes: Street (mostly), Drag Race (some), and Road Race.
I figure that if I cant get this one done there is something majorly wrong with me cause the body and interior are in pretty good shape and all I've got to worry about is the drivetrain.
We'll see as she comes home next week!
