To hell with classifieds

I give up trying to sell stuff on the classifieds section of sites specializing in whatever it is you're selling. Some of you may remember that '70 440-6 challenger rustbucket I had late last year. I listed it for sale here and on cuda-challenger.com. No dice-a lot of folks doing the random shuffle over there, asking questions and wanting additional photos. I got so pissed that I VERY nearly took the plasma cutter to the car and documented it with photos. THAT would have made a helluva thread over at cuda-challenger, and probably would have made people think twice about being retarded and doing the random shuffle. Instead, I ebayed it. The result-it lasted 25 MINUTES before a guy bought it for 10 grand.

Another time I had a set of cnc-ported victor jr heads for a smallblock ford for sale. I have several 9 second timeslips from when my mustang had these heads on a solid-cammed (NOT roller cam) 393 smallblock. With the ARP head bolts, the rockers, studs, fully assembled ready to bolt on, I asked $1500 on a mustang site. NOT ONE response. I even offered them to a couple of close friends for $500. FIVE HUNDRED GODDAMN DOLLARS FOR A SET OF 9 SECOND HEADS READY TO BOLT ON. NOPE, could not sell them. To ebay they went, for the still-low price of $1150.

And now, I have the '06 cummins 5.9 engine for sale. It's in the classifieds here and on two different dodge diesel sites. I didn't really expect to sell it here, as this isn't a diesel site. As with the other two cases above, the response is silent to the extent that you can hear frogs farting in Siberia.

Well, I've gotten pretty tired of hearing Siberian frogs fart, so I put it on egay. Two days (of the 10 days in the auction) pass, and it had already met my reserve of $5k.

As the Wayans brothers would say, MESSAGE! If you have something for sale, you can fuck around with the dumb shit (classifieds) or you can sell it. Guess what I'll be doing in the future? I'll no longer bother to list anything on the classifieds sections of any site I belong to-doing so is apparently as useless as tits on a donkey. I have a fair amount of good stuff for c bodies, stuff like grilles and fenders. I could list it on c body drydock, or I could sell it. Coming soon to an egay auction near you!

The odds are against you when posting on specialty sites. We have here only about maybe 100 or so regular Moparnuts posters even though the member list has about over 1000. Maybe double that for C-C.com. Ebay has how many millions on their website daily? It's nothing personal I'm sure, just the law of averages.

You gotta do what you gotta do. Go ahead and put whatever you want to get rid of on Ebay. Then if you post a link here at least the tire kickers would know they are gonna have to either shit or get off the pot if they want the item.

That's not a bad idea-I may do that. I never really took it personally, though I've seen some people (not me) get lambasted for ebaying something instead of "helping the hobby" by offering it for sale dirt cheap on classifieds first. I now see why they ebayed whatever it was-they wanted to sell it before the 3rd coming of Jesus.
