The Tipton transmission plant, which started productionaround two years ago, has already achieved bronze status in the FCA “World Class Manufacturing” system. It is the 14th North American facility with that status; three have gone silver since (Windsor, Dundee, and Toledo). Tipton, a fairly new plant, was purchased from ZF to make nine-speed automatics, after a $162 million investment.
