Tilt column?

What kind of car can I snatch one out if an adapt to fit my Charger?

I found an aftermarket column for '68-70 B bodies, and another for '73 B bodies, not sure why they singled that year out, but they are $800-1000. That's out of the budget, not to mention ridiculous! :dgt:

I believe you use the upper assembly from a '75-'79 B-body with the original shaft from your car. I had one in the Black Bitch, but it was in it when I got it. I'll have to ask my friend what he used, as the car also had later-model cruise adapted into it on the turn-signal stalk.

I never much cared for the tilt, probably because it's one of those things you never use. You adjust it once and leave it there forever.

I'd maybe grab a similar year column from a C-body...then tear the two apart and make it work.

When I had my Challenger I had a tight fit because of my legs, even with the seat all the way back. The seat I have now, even with the collapsed springs, it's a bit snug. Not to mention I have gained a little weight since then too.

Here is the one I'm talking about http://www.p-s-t.com/s.nl/it.A/id.9590/.f?sc=12

I have a floor shift column from a '73-4 B body, what would I need to do to put it in my '71 Doc?

If it's just a straight column, all you should need to do is swap the lower shaft. You might want to double-check your wiriing at the connector; sometimes Mopar moved pins around for no apparent reason.

They don't make those Ididit columns for your Charger specifically, by the way. Also, to touch on what Cow said, I don't think that idea would be worth the effort since you'd have to find a rare tilt-column floor-shift C-body in the first place, then perform major modifications to make it fit.

I have all kinds of saginaw tilt columns. F/M/J, late B, C and Truck. :D

I've only got one floor shift column thought, it's from a '76 Chargedoba.

Yup they sure did. I used a 69 turn signal switch to replace the broken one in my 68 wagon. Both from C-bodies, both "looked" identical. Until You actually looked at the wiring and how it was routed to the connector. Had to switch around a couple wires to make it all work.

I do like those Tuff wheels....good looking units. Personally I don't really care one way or another for tilt. Tilt just means there is more things that can go wrong.

after bumping a curb in my 71 caddy and the tilt stuff snapping its guts and limping home with a mile of slop...ill NEVER own a car with a gm tilt in it...mopar or otherwise

atleast the alfa tilt is a straight column as it no joints in it its built on a slide rail with a pinch bolt pull lever drop column push lever to tighten
