Doc and I were talking the other day, right after I found the wagon and made that deal. He brings up how cool it would look with the hideaway headlight setup from a 300. I said I know where there is one sitting sans motor, trans and front seat. :hmmm: Wheels are spinning off the tracks right now, so I send Spawn out to get me some pics. Anyway, the guy that has the car had similar plans with his '72 T&C, but the body lines are different

He's kinda been sitting on it a little while and decided that he's going to strip it down and scrap the shell. I have some stuff he needs, and I want the 300 so we're thinking a partial trade with somebody ponying up a little cash, we'll work that out later.

Anyway a few pics... mind you this is a lifelong Filthadelphia/east coast car and there are hidden issues...

I love the hideaway lights on the 300, though I like the '69 version much better.
I still kick myself for getting rid of mine over 20 years ago... not exactly sure why I let it go. I'd sure like to get another someday.

It would be some work, but some acetylene creativity could have everything looking like it belonged on the '72.

I'm thinking if you've got the space to store it, get the 300 anyway whether or not you swap anything over to the wagon. I'm sure there is a market of some type for 300 parts.

Should be a direct swap...no major mods should be required. The 72's are still considered Fusey...so i don't think the undercarriage changed all that much. I've seen this done before...but generally with a 300 and a wagon of the same year.

You would need everything from the cowl forward...and maybe the rad support too.

Here's the story I got from my friend and confirmed by the guy that owns the car, Carl. Carl and another guy went halfsies on the 300, Carl wanted the nose and other miscellaneous items from it and the other guy wanted the motor and trans and the front seat. Well that went as planned, but the block turned out to be junk so he ended up buying another 440 from Carl. Anyway the nose was supposed to be a "bolt on" deal for Carl's '72 and the lines aren't right so that never happened. Meanwhile the 300 has just been sitting, I asked about right after it was purchased, but it was no dice on the nose so I passed, like 4-5 years ago.

My buddy Frank told me it was getting parted and scrapped a few days ago with that info, and Doc's idea, put me back on it. Even if I don't use the nose on my car, a 300 coupe is an awesome piece, and if it isn't a total basket case might be worth rebuilding.

I parted out a nice 1969 300 2dr years ago. Bought it less motor and tranny. Had new dual exhaust on it, which would have cost me more then the asking price for the parts car. That exhaust went on my 70 Sport Fury and the rest of the car made me a lot of money.

If the body lines aren't right, then I wouldn't waste my time, and money. I think that car is only a parts car now. Looks too far gone to be a rebuildable piece...IMO. The 69 300 I parted out was in pretty nice shape...probably shouldn't have parted it but...Meeh can't save 'em all.

I'm looking at the chrome trim around the grille.....

If it's got these trim clips behind it, I'll take it and the clips if you decide to part it all out and don't need those for yourself.

The whole front clip on the '70 300 is a direct bolt-on to the '72, but the body lines don't match. The '72 body was all new, same dimensions as '69-"71 but totally different charactor lines.
The '70 bumper is also a direct bolt on (a hole or two may need to be drilled or enlarged) but it won't match the forward fender lines or the hood.
None of the 300 grill/headlamp assembly componets will fir the '72 bumper.

But, you can splice the forward sections of the 300 fenders onto the '72 fenders and use the 300 hood (I think they're the same width) and lower valence to make it all work.
This is all from memory, so don't quote me, but there is a bit of work involved. It would look awesome with hidden headlights. :)

OR
DCF could buy the front bumper assembly and swap it onto the New Porker... He might only need the grill and lamp assemblies so shipping might be cheap. :P

I thought about that! :hmmm: I looked at the pics, the earlier cars are flat sided and mine has a curved section in the middle of the body. I still have to see what it's gonna take to acquire this thing, and see how bad it is under the skin before I can do anything.

Having an extra bumper around couldn't hurt.

That one is exactly the same as the New Porker, isn't it? Sure looks like it.

Hmmm... Along those same lines, the back bumper has a few dimples in it.

Shit. Now you've got me thinking about chrome shops and restoration stuff!

71, Keep me posted on what you do with it..... dammit.

Front bumper isn't that nice, would definitely need replacement, see here

You can see what's left of the valance too.

But, yeah lemme see what happens. It's going to be a few days, Carl doesn't own a computer, I'll let you know what happens.
