Thinkin about buiding a sleeper

I'm thinking I want to take my wife's 2wd Grand Cherokee and put my 360/727 that I was planning on installing in my Cuda. I'm gonna look for doors with manual windows, and no power locks, stripping all the carpet underlay, rear window wiper, A/C parts, and pretty much anything else that adds weight and is not necessary. I'm also thinking that I'll repaint it gray, and put some better looking, factory aluminum wheels and lower it about 1.5"-2". I'll redo the exhaust using a factory 3" tip, and fabricate, or buy a larger diameter exhaust. What do ya'll think? Would you suprised by a non-descript 94 Grand?

Go look in the "Sleepers!" thread. Personally, I love it... but keep the lowering to a minimum, and avoid hot-rod wheels. Trust me, you'll have more fun that way.

the power door locks can simply be removed...."most" doors on "most" cars and trucks sport the same door be it with or without power stuff...however you will useualy have to drill out some aluminum riviets and replace them with bolts but you should be able to swap in a manual window regulator for the power unit...been there done that on countless doors

No racey looking wheels here, I just want to put these wheels on there:

It presently has these hideous things:

If I can find a set of stock steelies with caps I'll run those. I have a set of cop car wheels, but I think the offset is different (please correct me if I'm wrong, or it's a nominal difference) As far as the lowering goes, I'm not sure that it'll be noticed, nothing else stands out on this thing. I'll look into manual regulators, and start pulling the solenoids and wiring for the locks. I'll post some pics tomorrow, but it's a plain jane looking GC Laredo. One thing that will make a difference is noise, so I will need a quiet exhaust. Can anyone recommend a QUIET performance muffler? I'll run a resonator too, if needed. Thanks for the input so far

I think the offset problem goes the other way. Had a set of jeep wheels was going to use just to get a charger on a trailer and had to space them out about half an inch to clear the springs. maybe your cop rims will rub on the fender?

Too bad it's not a 4wd. A good 4wd launch can rival or beat a rwd launch on slicks, at least on the street.

Yeah the 4wd launch is awesome, my buddy had a 94 GC 5.2 (K&N airfilter & cat back dual exhaust) with the full time 4 wheel setup, it came off the line pretty good.
I used to race him when I had my 5.9L '98 QC 4X4 with an 8' bed,(K&N & cat back dual exhaust) but he couldn't stay ahead through first gear... and he put 2 Xcases in (first was rebuilt & the second was brand new) and was looking at a third when he traded it in. He was told something with a chain inside of them stretches quickly if you "run it too hard" :wtf: (whatever that means, it's a friggin Mopar didn't know that was possible)
Ohhhhh yeah, I didn't use 4wd and I got some pretty white smoke if I nailed it going around a corner, and I was running big tires 285/75/16 I think they are equal to 33's :shifty:
How do the later 8.25's hold up? My Jeep has 210K and I'm thinking I'm going to the JY and find a lower mileage unit, hopefully with a limited slip, and rear disc brakes

Couple more queries, What trans is behind the 4.0? Will it bolt to the 360? Can I get a torque convertor for it(motor is a 74)? If everything else is a go, will it hold up behind a not too radical 360? Last one here, I want to get the single plane M1 Intake that bolts to the Magnum heads, have the injector bungs installed, and purchase the 4brl throttle body (I'd add PN's but I can't find my Mopar Performance catalog) and probably the Dak. R/T PCM(?) could this work?!?!?! I really want EFI, and I would like OD, but that is not as important.
BTW I'm not worried about state inspections, where I live as long as you have a horn, wipers, lights and the tires seem to have tread it'll pass

i highly doubt that trans has the same bolt pattern to mate up to a v8...i could be wrong but i doubt it

i stretched my first chain in my RC ...it took ALOT of abuse to do so...were talking ALOT of 4low launches on dry pavement...i got in the habit of starting in 4low rowing thru the 3spd of the 727..get to about 50 pop neutral on the 727 and drop into 4high slam the 727 into 2nd gear and keep on haulin ass....i could shift that thing as fast as a 5spd manual trans..fishy saw me do it a few time and wondered how the hell i got so fast at it...it was always fun spinning fronts and rears and launching like a bat outa hell....beat more than my fair share of unsuspecting street cars who figured a truck would be "slow" pushin 33's and a big heavy ramcharger body

8 1/4's imo are so so.....its going to come down to what kind of torque your planting and how many miles are on the unit...the one in my cuda took a crap load of abuse before the front bearing failed and walked the pinion
