Cool!

I don't think I can find room to stack another magazine subscription, though and Digital doesn't feel right to me.

My Dad spent most of his working life on the road when I was a kid...

He used to bring me a new copy of CARtoons every month when he came home for a weekend. It was kind a big deal - we were poor, so things like magazines were strictly luxury items.

I think much of the appeal of this magazine is linked to when you were first exposed to it. A friend of mine started to buy these around the time we were in junior high. It was kind of cool for awhile but the novelty really vanished when we got actual cars. It was always its own publication, for the record. It didn't start anywhere, it just came into being as its own magazine in the late '50s.

There's no mistaking George Trosley's work, of course. He's got a style all his own, whether his art was in CARtoons or Hustler. :D Shawn Kerri was another standout; she often put herself somewhere in her artwork so it was kind of a game to see if she had and where she was. She also created "Skank Kid" for the Circle Jerks and did a lot of posters and artwork for them, the Germs, and others in the punk scene.

I remember my friend buying the issue with this Shawn Kerri art in it:

It could probably be best described as a Mad magazine for gearheads.
