OK, so I got the new Summit catalog, and the "centerfold" is an '80 Z/28. I think the car is very-tastefully done and actually quite pretty. Then I looked at the interior: it has aluminum eyelets in the upholstery.
Now I have Power Block on the TV, mostly as background noise, and Search and Restore is doing a '67 Mustang. What do we find in the upholstery? Titanium eyelets in the upholstery.
Yes, it looks kind of cool, but apparently none of these idiots ever got into a Levi's Edition Gremlin or Pacer on a hot, sunny summer day. Didn't we learn this lesson in the '70s after being burned by copper rivets on denim upholstery? Metal accents on seats get very hot, guys. Hot enough to burn you through a T-shirt, actually, and God forbid you're wearing shorts and a tank top. I guess it's the engineer in me; I appreciate good form, but not at the cost of function. The Z/28 may be just a show car (I don't know), but the Mustang is being built as a driver. I wonder how the guy for whom it's being built will feel about those eyelets after his first summer with the car.
