Rusty, a buddy of mine, recently finished building a 418 late hemi for a guy with a daytona truck. They took it and got it tuned on a dyno by some people who apparently know what they're doing, and he stopped by my work yesterday and dropped off the dyno results. It made 433 hp and 375 ft/lbs at the wheels, on 93 octane. The funny thing is, they had the dyno operator stop the runs at 6750 rpm. The hp curve was still headed up-they think peak power would occur somewhere around 7000. He built a 426 hemi for the same guy's srt8 300 after the guy paid hennessey motorsports a bunch of money to fuck up the original engine the first time. (loose valve guides about to fall out of the heads)
If I ever want a strong hemi built, I'll definitely get Rusty to build it.
