Sometimes you need your own locomotive

An idea whose time still hasn't come, and likely never will. It might be fun to putz with for a day or two, but I expect the cost of such an item would far outweigh its usefulness... sort of like the Segway. :D

Notice every still photo in that video (including the preview) is an awful Photoshop hackjob? :doh:

that artic cat version looks stupid fun....but honestly..the whole thing looks insanely fun and unsafe as all hell and im good with that...i think it would be more fun tho as a gas model.....stuff a small honda 250 in there...if we had enuf snow to make it worth it id be working on making one with a spare motor i have

all that said..i could see them being very usefull for the right ppl..especialy in euro market

That's an old idea originally pioneered by Bolens back in the 60's;

My brother-in-law used to work for a local lawmower shop that was a Bolens dealer and he got a super deal on one. Forty-five years later and he's still got the stupid thing. :doh: You can easily fit 3 people on it, carry about 4 cases of beer under the seat and push cars out of snow banks. :D

Top speed was only about 20 mph and a lack of a windshield made for a long & cold outing. :(

oh god that looks sooooo cool....who needs a windshield if your in the right gear...hell id have a helmet on..but 20mph no thanks lets boost that by at minimum double...an 80s 250r engine/trans for 6spds would be a scream

A mechanical shift system wouldn't work very good on something like that. You would need to stay with the variable ratio belt drive. Just increase the power output and then the final gear ratio accordingly.

I've ridden on one of those old Bolens sleds. At the I-500 race (think NASCAR on snowmobiles) some guy had one and one of the friends I was with knew the owner. It's a completely weird feeling since I was used to modern sleds. Very fun though. I just rode a couple laps around the parking lot.

With the winter that we've had, the snowmobilers in this region have had a field day for over 3 months already. The rivers & lake have enough ice to build a house on and it seems like almost every day or two I have to clean the sidewalk & driveway again. [smilie=l:

That was the nice thing about having a lifted 4x4 in Michigan. I never had to shovel my driveway. Just dump it in 4 low and crawl through it. :P

Rollin' rollin' rollin'
Fishy on a Bolens
Slowly snowy rollin,
