Small-town troubles

Nope, it's not gangs, murder, drugs, or grand theft auto on the front page of the local paper. We've got bigger issues--deer!

They really are a nuisance. I had more near-misses with deer in our driveway as a kid than I ever did on the highway. You damned-near have to put an electric fence around your garden in some areas, too.

One scared the heck out of me when I walked to the kitchen sink, and he was eating my flowers. We spooked each other, I guess. I about shat myself when he popped up and took off. :D

Just about got Christmas dinner last night. :( If I would've swerved I'd of hit her dead-on. Checked the trailer light for fur, it was that close.

i found a tail..yes the tail fluf...mark on the minivan tail light one night drifting thru the gravvel..yeah it was that close

The left front fender on the Dynasty was hit by deer twice (they ran into me as I was slowing). Second time was hard enough to tweak the door and pop out part of the inner splash shield. Both walked away.

Had another one crap on the hood as I went by him.

lol...a couple years ago the hubby hit a deer, and as it went up over the roof it shat on the windshield.

2 of my brothers have already shot 7 this hunting season in northern Illinois, they say the problems just as bad there also.

Too many years of "Oh, we can't kill the poor bambi's, there so cute"

Maybe we could live-trap 'em and send 'em to you. :D

The problem here, and though I don't hunt I've talked to lots of hunters, seems to be that the deer are actually leaving the less-populated areas and moving into towns and cities. There were lots of disappointed hunters this year, and yet we have too many in the city limits... probably because the food supply is better here and there's less threat. Hell, they're almost becoming domesticated.

One of my customers put it best the first Monday of the season: "I went to my stand before sunrise yesterday and today. I froze my ass off for hours on end and didn't see a f__cking thing. Then, on my way home at 7 this morning, I had to stop and wait. I had to honk my horn to get past the biggest 8-pointer I've ever seen, two blocks from my house."
