*sigh* Ford goes bye bye....

Yeah I know we've been down this road before. Simnply it has to do with gas prices and a friend needs a parts truck. I originally bought it so I could get my U-Joints taken care of as well as my oil leak on the Jeep. Well My U-Joints should only be a couple hour job at most. The oil leak I realize will be a half day process to pull the motor and replace the rear main seal as Rich thinks is the source. He's a badass mechanic and he's built the champion mud trucks for the past 7 years in a row locally so he must know his chit! ;) He's a great mechanic and knows 4x4's inside and out with his eyes closed. Well anyhoo the gas mileage on the Ford absolutely SUCKS!!! The Jeep still gets KILLER mileage so I'm better to keep it on the road for that alone for now, especially with the way gas prices are thses days.:doubt: My buddy Paul has an '88 F-150 and needs a parts truck. He plans on doing a street legal mud stomper with his truck. We have the same motor with the exception mine is 2wd his is 4wd. I really have no further use for the Ford. Yes I fixed the brake lines and it runs great! Stops pretty dang well too. ;) I guess looking back I really didn't need it much in the first place but it was a safety net of sorts. So after I get the u-joints and oil leak taken care of (which will be quite soon) Paul is gonna buy it from me for $300. I paid $400 for it so not too bad I guess. I'm gonna hang onto it till after the new parts are in the Jeep just incase. So it still has a purpose as a back up vehicle. I'm gonna miss the thing but if someone else can get better use from it, be it parts or whatever, I'm willing to let it go to help a buddy out. Of course I have to keep a souvenier from it. I have a Ford F-150 keychain on the set of keys for the truck so I might just keep a set (I have 3 sets) of keys or one of the F-150 badges off one of the fenders, or both. To further elaborate on the gas situation, I made it from my house to Escanaba to hang with Jass for a weekend on 1/2 tank there and 1/4 back in the Jeep. That's a 3 hour trip one way. (I discovered cruise control on the way back.) With the Ford I had a full tank of gas and made it from here to Kinross which is a 1 hour round trip and it took a half tank of gas!!![smilie=2:[smilie=2:[smilie=2: Yeah! I'm sure a few will agree with me about the gas thing!!! Well that's all for now.

At least you are selling it with it running and your needs met good job on fixing the brakes.
If he is parting it I may need a few parts ( headlights and header panel )

Yeah like I said I'll hate to see it go but I'm pretty much done with what I bought it for. Not sure exactly what parts he needs from it but what do you need? I'll compare it to his list (as soon as I figure out what that is) and take it from there.

I need the front body the one I worked on has no lights or any where to mount them he uses it for a snow plow only but he would like to take it to town to put gas in, that requires more parts than he has LOL.

(disregard. I just read what you needed Wolf. Didn't see it before. I'll ask him if he needs those, if not then I'll just charge you cost of shipping and they are yours! ;) )

You're gettin rid of Albert, even after you get him straightened out??? I understand the gas thing, trust me, I'm putting at least 100 miles a day on my POS, and filling up every second to third day. I did find a 95 Neon I can pick up cheap ($200), but there's not a straight body panel on it... 20+ mpg is sounding good right now though

Yeah sadly so. Like I said it will soon fulfill it's obligation to me. Besides I have a good lead on a 91 DieNasty for $100.00 Kid says the driver door is slightly dented from him kicking it and the tranny slips when you get on it but works fine if you drive like a sane man. That tells me it needs a trans flush for starters. I could easily flip it up here for about $500.00 provided that's all that's really wrong with the car. If I do get that DieNasty and flip it, 69.5, get ready! I'ma comin home!!:giggedy:

they definatly deserve the dienasty title my friend had one and to this day i dont know what happened to it. he was on the interstate and he heard a loud noise and the car shut off . he coasted to the shoulder bent down to look under it and he said all the oil was dumping from the bottom . he paniced and thought it was going to explode and took off running down the hillside next to the interstate lol :bwuhaha: .

:bwuhaha:That's pretty funny. Had a buddy of mine a while back tell me about his 73 LeMans. Him and his buddies were haulin around town and decided to jump on the interstate. He said he got it up to about 70 and there was this loud noise. He didn't know what it was so he just floored it to drown it out...needless to say he blew his engine to hell and back. His dads friend bought the car and when he went to pull the motor he said the whol bottom end just discentegrated. :bwuhaha::bwuhaha:

:bwuhaha:...he got it up to about 70 and there was this loud noise... :bwuhaha::bwuhaha:

Ask MGS his story bout the same thing...

read the quote, that's what he said when I asked what he did to my Challenger

I ended up with a 318 block windowed on the #1 cylinder, 2 twisted rods, a the top of the #1 piston at the top of what was left of the cylinder. I wish I had pics of the carnage. I held onto the rod for a long time, but it disappeared a couple years ago...

[smilie=2:What the hell did he do to that poor 318?! [smilie=f:

Yeah those would have made for some killer carnage pics!!:bwuhaha::bwuhaha:

After playing detective, I figured the trans went south losing all but low gear, more on that:hmmm: . The motor was weak and had very low oil pressure and I told him to drive it to school, then work and I'll pick it up when I got back :shifty: . Well Tommyboy gets the idea to ditch school and go to the mall about 25 miles away:naughty: . On the return trip is when all the schtuff happened, he's about halfway back and he said "it made a loud noise and shut off". About this time the driver's side header gets totally covered in oil, Tom jumps out of the car and pops the hood and the left side of the motor is in flames, I don't think he ever shared how he put it out, well he basically shut down the highway (both sides) for about 20 minutes or so because of the smoke. He goes to the emergency phone and they know exactly where he was, they had a lot of calls, and arranged to have a rollback tow it home.

I show up at his job, get out of my mom's car scanning for my Challenger not seeing it :wtf: , I see MGS with a very nervous look on his face. I walk over and ask where my car is, he say's it's at Uncle Rich's and hands me my keys :toot: . I didn't think too much of it at the time and headed over to grab it. I get over there and something just doesn't look right:huh: , the car is sitting at an odd angle, and the left front fender is, for lack of a better word, slimy. I jump in and fire it up, it cranks slowly and catches with a sound very similar to someone pounding on the block with a sledgehammer. I pop the hood, and start looking around, I see black all over the left side of the motor, and what's left of the oil smoking on the header. I shut it off, and try without success to restart it. I walk into the garage to grab a flashlight and can of brake clean, I spray the motor from the top side and crawl under with the light and see a HUGE hole where my motor mount was:mad: ...

I get back into my mom's car, left the Challenger the way it was, hood up door open and keys in the ignition, and went down to visit my bro. I fly into the parking lot at the gas station where he worked, he saw me and ran. I not sure what I looked like at the time, but I'm sure it was evil[smilie=d: . I catch him, almost have to beat him to pulp before he confesses[smilie=k: . He made the statement above and I don't remember to many more details about that day. [/FONT]

I get back to my mortally wounded baby, push her into the garage and start to tear her apart. I get the right side motor mount unbolted, and the motor jacked up enough to get the left header off. This is where pics would be nice, the biscuit and steel with a piece of the block are still attached to the K frame. I proceed to pull the motor and trans out, I figured I'll get a shift kit installed :giggedy: while I was spending money. I go down to Pep Boys (I worked there at the time) and order another 318, (my dad told me 360's were junk) an Edelbrock intake, cam, and 600cfm carb:cash: . I drop the trans off the next day, and get a call a couple hours later from Cliff (the trans guy) "what the hell did you do to this thing?" I ask why:huh: , and he says "I can only reuse the valvebody and case" It was supposed to be about $275 to rebuild it, it ended up being about $475. I ended up putting about $3000 or so into the Chally that month.

:doubt: I wish I had pics, or at least the rod and piston...

Yeah I'd say you were lookin pretty good and pissed when you pulled into the station. I know I would be! That's grounds for a serious ass whoopin!! LMAO!!!

funny thing about this whole story is the way he just so happpened to leave out the part about his "fault" in the whole thing..... well when he put the said motor and trans in the car he didnt hook up a detent for the trans and from what we've both heard that can cause the trans to go buh bye..... so i may have blown the motor..... but it was his fault the trans died first.... and i wasnt half way home.... i made it about 9 miles from the mall....

as for putting the fire out.... i think i used a towel and washer fluid.....

No, that motor had the kickdown, the motor after that didn't get the kickdown, because I didn't have the right hookup for the 4 barrel carb. It was your fault, you knew the motor was weak and had low oil pressure. Besides you did NOT follow instructions and went where you should not have gone...and THAT makes it your fault
