[smilie=e: I'm selling the 340 short block that was in my car but I never shipped something this big. Is it really worth it or should I hold out for a local buyer?
Who has shipped one and what's involved? I know you have to at least strap it to a pallet but......[smilie=e:

Inquiring minds sit back and waits for answer, too. (Just because.)

If I were to guess, I'd say truck freight. no FedEx. no UPS or at least not their normal services..

im curious as well...perhaps greyhound?

I'd like to see you lift that into the compartment under the bus or into one of their pup trailers.

I'd send it truck freight. Make sure it's insured and strap it to a pallet like you said. Don't use UPS, Fed Ex and definately not DHL :D Pick a company that actually hauls heavy stuff like that.

the cheapest most economical method is www.forwardair.com ,if you live near a big city they go terminal to terminal, you just drop it of,they grab it with a lift truck,or they load you if you are picking up free,if you need smaller local service then it costs more, from their closest terminal,go to the site and find out where your closest terminal is and where it's going, call the 800 toll free # and they will rate it,,,I just sent a '64 full dressed 426SW to detroit from ottawa, ont, for $300,,but it was fully crated for safety, and to keep it out of sight,a skid works for most engines,I sent a 440+6 longblock to atlanta,Ga. earlier in the summer for $280,it depends where it's going most days,,,brought a '66 hemi block from denver to fla.,for $200,,another 392hemi complete from fla. to detroit for $350,,but these guy's are the cheapest and unlike most carriers there is no surprises on the receiving end,,,they are only servicing ottawa, montreal and toronto in canada, but all 48 states,

Negotiable. I have a high reserve but that's just for Ebay![smilie=a:

Truck freight is a breeze... and you really don't have a choice on who carries it along the way. I've sent stuff via truck, and had it go through as many as 3 carriers beyond the one to whom I entrusted it.

Strap it to a pallet and bring it to a truck terminal. It's really that simple; they can give you an estimate if you can give them a weight and size. You can even send it freight collect, which means it costs you nothing, and the buyer picks up the tab when they retrieve the engine.

Oh, and service to the buyer's door generally adds $60-$100, depending on locale and carrier.
