Shall i go with this, or go with that?

Wel, as i sit here, waiting for my college to start (that is a for sure thing. The begining of the fall semester of 2007 I will be in Japan, i'll see if i can high-jack some internet usage over there to give you an update on if there is any exisitng Mopar life over there. But otherwise, its a go for college....God help anything that gets in my way LOL :D )

But one thing is bothering me a bit. My friend has reasured me, no matter what, since i paid for the Neon, he's getting me the title (though still no effort on his part on getting it yet  ) So, then i have a 1995 Plymouth Neon (its a Dode...i just call it a Dodge :shifty: ) with a possibly failing ATX (big suprise  ), leaky gas tank, faulty fuel pump, rust hood, rusty trunk, and a few parking lot and backpack brusies. And at this current moment, doesn't start.

Or, i could go with car #2. The aformentioned Lebaron (correction, the convertible top color is black, not white), a shreaded ATX, rocker rust, a dent with some rust in it, a few tears in the leather, a whole in the top, a 2.2 Turbo :giggedy: , bad shocks (and or struts), but she runs just doesn't go anywhere due to the previously mentioned ATX.

I'm thinking of adding a plastic fuel cell into the Neon where the old tank used to be (if possible) to cut costs (since its going to be about $250 total for a replacement metal tank) and if i feel inclined, replace the atx with a manual 5spd if one can be found for a fair pirce. ATX's give me headaches, i apologize to the members who favor these transmissions, but my personal choice is to row the gears like they did in the days of yore (68R/T's 30's i beleive LOL)

Or, with the Lebaron, pop in a manual (mainly because from the information i got from 68R/T and 69.5's posts on a certain engine and transmission, it sounds like the 5spd is more stout in the first place, so, why not?), fix the top (cause rain inside a convertible when the top is up is still not cool LOL) and fix the rocker rust (come on, i like a "rust-free" vehicle, not a free-rust vehicle....i got plenty of those :doubt: :D ) and do a once over on the engine to make everything should be running like it should.

If i'm looking for hp, i'm almost positive that 2.2 turbo Lebaron will be me into plenty of trouble (and i've never owns a convertible, so that'd be cool), but i've already paid for the neon (in more than one way  ) so i'm kinda stuck with that too, and, to be honest, when it was still running, it was kind of a fun shit beater LOL.

Any words of wisedom? Either way, the work on the vehicles won't be happening this year unless desperatly needed. Right now, my truck is my reliable sorce of transportation, but its a tired beast looking for a place to rest its head one day. And after college, i'm going to need a reliable car to run around to look for jobs :helpme:

And if i can have some fun doing it, why not? :vroom:

Man, I'd be all over the Turbo 'vert. Plus, you might get some money out of it at sale time.

Easier to work on, cheaper parts, faster, and a drop-head? Where, exactly, does the decision lie? As a former owner of both a non-Turbo LeBaron 'vert and a DOHC Neon, as well as a LeBaron Turbo hardtop, this seems a no-brainer to me. Top goes down for the win.

My Turbo hardtop LB was 10 years older than the DOHC Neon Sport and had 20K more miles, and it would have spanked that PL car in a race--curvy or straight-line. Ask Stretch--he put that same motor into an '89 GTC and drove it for quite some time.

Regardless... the first time you're out on a hot summer night with some good music and the top down, you'll wonder how you ever considered the Neon at all.

But hey... if you don't want that LeBaron, let me know. I'll call S.H.A.T., Inc. and we'll be down for it.

I apreiecate the offer, but the Lebarons mine then LOL. I was thinking of the Lebaron in the first place. The Neon might fetch some cash too if i can get it to run then. Since i'll be going to college, i can post it for sale on a board at the school, should go fast, nice college car...but i got a truck, so who needs a Peon when you can have a drop top 'Baron.

Though i still need to check this car out completly, so far i've been going off of descriptions and road side glances, but in the next month i'm heading up that way, and one of the sites will be the LeBaron (oh, and theres something in there about meeting the GF's parents too..... :D )

But yeah, I might need your help there Jass if i can't find a 5spd an such for this thing down here for a reasonable price, plus i (might) have to convince my dad about another car (though if i can shuffle my cards right, i won't rub him the wrong way, have a turbo Lebaron, get ride of the Peon, keep the D100....and a partrige in a pare tree LOL)

BTW, if it's a '94, it's either a 2.5 Slant Four or a Mitsu-sourced 3.0L V6. As far as I know, the Turbo engines all went dodo in 1993.

Still, even so, I'd still take the ragtop.

I'm thinking its older than 94, looks like she has the flip out head lights which i don't think was an option in 94', plus it says 2.2 Turbo, which i thought was phased out for the slightly larger 2.5 in the early 90's (but i could be wrong since i was still in elementary school during those times). Am I right in my speculation?

The hideaway headlamps disappeared (heh) after '92, so it's definitely earlier. The hideaway cars are definitely prettier than the open-headlight setup used '93-up.

Check the dashboard... if it's got a gauge nacelle that follows the shape of the steering wheel, it's '90-'92. If it's more retangular, it's '87-'89.

it's got a digital dash (from what i've been told)....so i'll have to check on that

There were a few years when two different LeBaron body styles were available, the standard LeBaron and the GT. Both were available as a 'vert with the 2.2 turbo.

IMO the standard looks better than the GT [smilie=f:[/LEFT]

I kinda like the GT, though having the hood louvers form the standard would be cool too.

The GT nomentclature didn't start until 1990; in 1988 and '89 there were some GTCs but they were fairly rare and all were hardtops. If I recall, all '88 GTCs were Turbo II/5-speed cars; in '89 you could get an auto but it downgraded you to the Turbo I. In '90, the GTC package was mostly appearance items and had no bearing on drivetrain and a GT option also appeared, again being appearance only. I believe in '93-'95, all LeBaron convertibles were labeled either GT or GTC. In '94-'95, there was no LeBaron coupe... just the convertible. In fact, I don't think there was a coupe in '93, either, but I'm not sure of that.

The two body styles didn't overlap; the K-based LeBaron (technically--get this--an E-body!) was axed at the end of '86 when the sleek J-body LeBaron 'vert arrived. In '90 four-door LBs went to the A-body platform, a.k.a Spirit/Acclaim. There is an '85 LeBaron GTS, which sorta looks like the J-car, but it's an H-body and was built from '85-'89. No body panels interchange and the GTS never had hideaway headlamps. It was only available as a four-door hatchback and also sold as a Dodge Lancer. Being that the GTS and the E-body model were built during overlapping years, it seems that there are a ton of early Turbo H-cars. Since it was the sportier-looking of the two I guess folks going for that body style were more inclined to get the hot-rod motor. The H-body was the only LeBaron sedan from 1987-'89.

I had one of those I hated the damn POS! Even though it earned me the prestigious award which is still proudly displayed on my TV pictured below!
