Well my shakedown pass for the new mill...was anything but uneventful. First let me show you some pics of what a Glasstek hood looks like after a 100-200 foot sailing after becoming separated from the car at 100 mph looks like:

I lost the hood just before the 1/8 mile point. The steel pop rivets came apart and the whole hood left the car and I could see it thru the rear view mirror, must have been 100-125 feet in the air. Thankfully it came off after the bleachers so all the damage was confined to the hood and not any people. Anyway, I soft pedalled the car on launch and could tell that I was getting some tire spin at the launch and I lifted when the hood came off and just finished running it thru the gears (when I could find any). I had the trans mis-adjusted and it took a while to get third gear, I figure that cost at least a half second. You can tell from the timeslip what was happening after the 1/8. The good thing is, that nothing other than the hood broke. I also broke the 10's barrier :giggedy:  even though I was just doing a checkout run which turned out to be my only run for the day, they won't let you run without a hood unless you have air cleaners, and of course I didn't have any. The car is strong. I'm really happy with how the motor running. My goal of mid 10's is well within reach, I think I'd have gotten it today if the hood stayed on. All in all I'm happy with the car so far, but the pop-rivets won't be going back on, time for some good old fashioned fasteners this next time around. The hood is repairable so that's ok too. Anyway here's a pic of the time slip, the guy I was running against had N/T and they tore off his section of the slip.

All that and still hit the 10's..showing some real potential snook!!

Damn shame about the hood, bet that got your attention in a big way.

damn good run even with the unfortunate incident :( if you let pff you definitely have low 10's and who knows maybe a 9 in there?

It was definitely exciting. Nothing like looking for third with the engine motoring at 7000+ rpm. The car has a lot left in it.

Good suspension loading at launch? Still a traction loss so there might be room for adjustment. 9s or nuthin.:helpme:

:naughty: Shoulda let me drive.:(

:toot:

Some sweet numbers for a shakedown, I see nines in there.

Next time I'll drive.....K?

:nanna:

Excellent....congrats ! Looks like all that hard work paid off....sorry to hear about your hood....doesn't look too bad though.

Yeah I'll say if you had a run like that and still got that good of a time......[smilie=2: You got a real beast on your hands there!!! Can't wait to see what a run with no incidents will turn up:eek:

*sniff* They grow so fast, I remember when it was a lowly cheevie-step-son.

:D

LMAO @ 68! True nuff, forgot that! :)

Snook, you must be really proud! Great time, and as you said, sounds like there is lots left! Way to go! Here's to high nines!:quaff:

Congrats!! Breaking into the 10's...dang, I'd be happy to break 12's with my Duster. :shifty:

I think you are the second guy on this board to lose a hood on the track, didn't not_a_charger lose one? lol...:toot:

68R/T you talk the track into it and you can ride shotgun.... , hell you can't be any worse than me, you might even get a nine out of it.

chebby step-son :bwuhaha: :shifty: , seems like just yesterday I was bringing it home from the evil ones...., it even had a chevy 12 bolt in it.[smilie=f: . it's been quite a trip..............

I realize that they arnt streamlined and all but 4 good old home made hood pins will keep that hood on extremely well.

:vroom: Sounds like a blast! I'm glad the hood is repairable, too bad it happened though..

I think the best part of all this: you're into the 10s and you've still got lots of room to twaek and tune and make it even better - and that's half the fun, isn't it?

NEXT Time you'll use duct tape :naughty: ............:D NHRA rules ALL 10 second cars need to use DUCT TAPE.............J/K.

congrats :bravo: to bad aboot the hood . wheres the video ? :bwuhaha: [smilie=f: :bravo:
can the hood be saved or do you have to get a new one ?

Solly cholly, no video, I was solo at the track  . The hood is being resurrected as we speak. Now I know why those glass guys are goofy, fume city. Cheap buzz though :shifty: .
