Restoration

CK's Challenger

Hello! Newbie here!

We are restoring a "73" Dodge Challenger and the previous owner painted the inside doors. I am wondering what we can use to strip them down to the original color?
Any suggestions would be great!
Thanks!

strip em "down" to the original color...uhh good luck with that..either strip em to bare or sanding...i dont know of any ways to strip paint by layer without damageing the next layer

You might consider a stripe-remover wheel... this ain't what it's designed to do, but every chemical of which I can think will damage the plastic panel.

Still, you can experiment a little on the back of the panels with the stripe disc, lacquer thinner, enamel reducer, etc. Just go easy so you don't irreparably damage the plastic.

Good luck, and glad to have you here.

I would try lacquer thinner first and if the results arn't good enough then soda blasting is the best...that how I do it

You can use a sand blast cabinet if you use plastic bead media and keep the air pressure way down.

doh lol i was thinking the "inside" of the door not the interior panels LOL

wouldnt dot3 work well on it?...its slow but i dont think it would trash the plastic.....TEST IT FIRST but my experiances with useing dot3 as a paint striper is that its slow but works great on everything except "clear" plastic as it eats it

when i say slow i mean litteraly soaking overnight then scrubbing with HOT water a stiff brush(not wire) and a lil dawn

Speaking of the brake fluid thing, you ever get my Mustang body's cleaned off?? :D:D...... no seriously...:wtf:

only about half of it..the roof wouldnt strip down ..it became litteraly a shot of soak, clean, sand, let sit for a few weeks, scratch and repeat..the body itself is spotless

So then you still got both bodies and roofs...or did you end up using one of the roofs on a different car?
