Quick throttle cable question

I am in the middle of replacing the throttle cable that arrived from Year One the other day, and it seems to me that in order to get the old one out I have to remove the entire accelerator.

Is this true? I don't know. If there is any other way, it would be cool to know because my garage is cramped (I have about 10 inches on each side to work, and while the top two bolts are easy access, I can't see how to get at the bottom nuts without jacking the car up.

Taking the car out of the garage right now is not an option. It rains every 10 minutes. Remember, summer is my indoor season.

TIA for any help.

That shouldn't be the case but by the sounds of your garage, it might be tight either way. There should be a slot in the pedal rod that the end drops into with a hole above the slot for the end of the cable to go into. There may or may not be a plastic plug in the round hole to keep the cable from jumping out of the slot. Hopefully that makes sense.

Thanks for the reply!

Yes the pedal rod is exactly as you say and there is a black plug there. What has me stumped is at the firewall where is seems there is a metal washer between the plate that holds the pedal and the cable. I can run down and take some pics so you'll see what I mean

Yes they are! This is what I have a t the firewall. Actually, now that I can see the pic, it seems that it's a c-clip I have to pull off. I couln't make that out all twisted on the floor worried about scratching the door. sheesh.

Actually, although I did answer my own question, the answer was:

Yes...you have to pull the entire accelerator assembly. Once I removed the c-clip, it became evident that there is a flange on the end of the cable that comes through the firewall and that flange is located between the accel mounting pad and the inside of the firewall.

It seems engineers have been playing dirty tricks on us even before they started covering the engines with plastic.
