New windshield..

Is it normal that the gasket seems so loose on the windshield ???
do i have to ad seeler into the gasket before laying it around the windshield??

loose gasket clip

:hmmm:

IIRC you want to glue the gasket onto the body, but the glass just goes in the gasket. Does it use a lockstrip? On my 74 the gasket is a little loose on the bench (a little less than yours), but in the car it's tight.

Thanks man, i must say i was a bit afraid to cut the old windshield out,
because of this (loose gasket) fit.

Ill give it a try tommorow,
if the weather works with me..

I think if you can imagine a cross section of the gasket it's H shaped, when you put it on the body it will make the top of the H narrower, gripping the glass.
Good luck and take your time; I broke my windshield (was gonna replace it anyway); but my backlight came out nice with no damage.

I get it thanks.
well my windshield has a nasty crack in it and its leaking so it must go
before captain frost arrives.

Took the windshield out today, no problem with that but,
also put the cord in the windshield gasket, my question is this..
the lip of the body goes in the gasket right, or the gasket goes
around a piece of the body/lip !?

well there's a lip on the side and the top but not on the bottom
is this normal or have someone in the past the bottom lip flat
hammered ??

i included some pics i hope that you're understand what i'm asking!

There is no bottom lip.
The flatter part sits in the lower channel, between the dash and the cowl.
The small gasket channels slip over the other 3 windshield pinch lips, with the cord channel facing out.
DO NOT put the lock cord in prior to installing the glass!

Mark.

Its done!

first try was with gasket around windshield , cord in channels..
and there was no way for me to get it done,
i tryed it a few times but nope, so i figured fork it.

so i pulled the gasket, put sealer on the body all around,
soaked the gasket with soapwater and
dropped in the windshield..piece a cake!

tommorow the water test and if its not leaking the trim.
