who did Jimmy Page first approach to be the lead singer in the New Yardbirds? This singer turned him down, but recommended Robert Plant instead. The rest is history!

Actually, Rod Stewart was an accomplished blues-rock vocalist before he became Vegas Showroom fodder.
His work with the Jeff Beck Group and his early solo material is quite good. He would have probably been a decent fit in the Zeppelin line-up....nowhere near the range & vocal pyrotechnics of Plant of course.
Well - seeing as no-one else is answering, the answer is Terry Reed (Reid?) who was a minor-league solo artist & session singer. I believe Jimmy Page may have known him through the substantial amount of studio session work he was also doing outside of the Yardbirds - but I'm not sure of that.
Steve Marriot was reportedly also considered for the gig, but I dunno if it was ever offered to him.
Terry Reid see I am just correcting not'a spelling he got it correct IMHO I had herd this story and the tired old brain replaced Terry Reid with Jack Bruce some one else that screwed up big time.
Nodda knew the answer 'cuz Nodda loooovvvvveess Zeppelin and Deep Purple. :hail:
See - the guy hadda habit of refusing good gigs. Deep Purple also offered him the front man gig, which he refused. Ian Gillan got it instead. Deep Purple is one'a Nodda's favourite rockn'roll bands.
Thanks for the spelling update wild 1 - I couldn't remember n' I was too tired (lazy?) to go downstairs n' dig out my books.
