I've noticed a handful of new users that have registered in the last week that are sort of on the borderline of being identified as spammers.
They've stuck to the rules as far as registering is concerned and they don't show up on any of the spammer tracking sites. So, I have no reason to do anything..... yet.
The worst they've done so far is include some links in their profile that are obvious backlinks to some site where they can make some money. That, in itself is not really a problem, and unless they break some other rule, I don't really care.
If you see any spam posts or spam PMs, let me know right away.
Our anti-spam efforts so far have kept a huge amount of crap off this forum, but it seems they are getting a little more persistent and intelligent.
I find the key to beating these attempts is to actually do something whenever they show up. If we're not an easy target, they'll go somewhere else. I've been able to see that behavior in the log files.
These latest registrations seem to be real people doing manual registrations. The only issue I have with them is that I really doubt that they are actually here to participate and contribute in the topics covered here.
I can't really send them packing just for that, but I will keep an eye on these users to make sure they don't do anything to kill the atmosphere here.
