"Pinks" coming to Milan Dragway...

I have serious issues, so I'm

should I? :D

I can just imagine how packed the place will be. They say they will pick a group of cars running either 9's, 10's, 11's, or 12's. I wonder if they would really pick 12 second cars, it seems doubtful but who knows?

My poor husband, I may have to torment him with this....wonder if I can borrow a nitrous setup for that weekend? :toot:

I've never actually seen an episode of PINKS, is it a stupid show? [smilie=f: [/COLOR]

is it a stupid show?

Very much so. Instead of using an actual tree for starting the race, they get some dufus to stand out on the strip and drop his arms to start the race. If there needs to be a handicap, they start one guy out further ahead on the track. Also, if you lose, you can just buy your car back for pennies after the cameras turn off. Here is another thread (kinda) about it.

yeah MM, I figured it was by what I've heard about it. Still...I dunno if I could pass on a weekend of racing. I'll have to think some more.

DCF...crap, I never even thought about running the Dak. That would be the better choice, if we don't blow it up by June. Hmmmmm.....

My take on Pinks:

It started out as a good concept then it turned south quickly. Most of what you see on there now are a bunch of slapped together Mustangs or small block Chevy's that are pretty much throwaway bodies and a motor that has just enough life left in it to run a handful of races while being fogged with nitrous. Every now and then someone shows up with a well built car but they usually get mad because some guy want 10 lengths because they know their car looks like trash. In short it has turned into a bunch of guys building junkyard drag cars in a week trying to win parts off the other guy.

That and the "crews" that come with the cars seem a little over the top for me.

I would rather they leave the whole lose your car part out of it and offer them some other incentive, like the winner takes home a crate motor or something like that. That way you'd have nicer cars running.

I cringe at every start because the host really need to get a longer t-shirt if he's going to be a human tree.

Oh and you said Milan. I escaped MI about 3 years ago, I never raced at Milan but did spend a few weekends watching races and BSing about my RR.

reading more about it on the Milan site it says no title racing...so I guess you don't have to put your car on the line anymore.

I believe it about the purpose built cars, my Duster and Dak probably wouldn't stand a chance against the swarm of sprayed junkyard Mustangs. That and people from every state around us flocking there. I doubt if I would even get in the gate, and I live right down the road from Milan.

Oh well, twas a thought...;)

After reading the description on the site it sounds like they are trying something totally different than the current setup. I LIKE IT!!! This should bring better quality cars and make the show a lot more fun to watch. I still wish they'd cut out the pros and require all the cars to be street legal and tagged or maybe make them drive the cars parade style for 10 miles on race day. I think it's more fun to watch the little guys go at and would give us weekend warriors a chance to show off.

I say take the Duster down there and give it a run. Mopars are hot right now and they bring the crowds, they would definitely let you through the gate. Think about it a handful of Dusters show up and about 1000 '89 Mustangs show up, who do you think they'll make room for?

Oh me too!! If they made everyone drive several hundred miles on the street, in the rain, and through construction on I-94, my Duster might be the only one left competing. :D

Okay, maybe I will go. See how easily I'm swayed? [smilie=f:

I drove my RR around Metro Detroit. Try going from Southfield to Sterling Heights on 696 in a 4 speed with manual brakes at rush hour. The worst part were the ones that would drift toward me while they checked out the car. The only thing worse than that was my boss' Z06, the skip shift "feature" was so bad that after making the drive one time I started looking for ways to disable it for him just in case he loaned me the car again.

the drifting toward you as they check out your car is scary...it happens all the time to me. They've crossed the center line and everything.

Update...I'm not going. I didn't have a chance. Pre-registration tickets went on sale today at 4:00 and the 350 allotted slots sold out within 17 minutes.

They don't call the Detroit area the Motor City for nothing. :D

There really are tons of fast cars in this area, it's pretty amazing.
