Pink Totalled Challenger T/A From Michigan Featured, M.C.G.

Remembered some of the board members posting pic's of it. Well, it is in show condition now, sort of. Some would say it has been "rebodied" or "cloned".

It is in the current (July 2005) issue of Mopar Collector's Guide. Interesting read, mentions Turek's salvage, and how the buyer found the car's matching #'s drivetrain and hood in the area, repurchasing several different parts from various people. He then bolted all the parts possible onto a stripped 70 Challenger shell from Arizona.

Um, yeah... right. That car was crushed last year according to the yard's owner. What's featured in MCG is a rebody, plain and simple.

I'd love to see how they "restored" this:

Keep in mind, after those pics were taken, someone came along and cut the last half of the rear quarters and trunk pan off to get the taillight panel.

Stretch and I know Paul Turek very well. That car was crushed, period. He told us personally... we were bummed, but there was no way to save it. There was still a fender lying there, but the rest was a little pink pancake.

Ed Kasper of Gladstone, Michigan claims to have the remains in his back yard, according to the article.

Quote, "He hauled the bent, rusted, and completely ugly hulk home.....".

Another Quote: "....the original car is still existent in Ed's backyard, and is still mangled beyond help."

I know where Ed lives... I'll have to check it out, since Paul swears the car was crushed.

I can't believe they'd feature a rebody.

I see a good door handle-mabeye thats where they started. Could be along the same lines as this is the hatchet that George Washington used to chop down the cherry tree but the head and handle have been replaced many times. [smilie=e: Mabeye that new elmers no run gel stuff is better than they thought. [smilie=e:

So, basically he now has a 70 Challenger from Arizona with a lot of parts from a totalled pink car.

The VIN, fender tag, and body numbers should all be of the Arizona car.

What's all that have to do with this mangled car? He didn't save the mangled car.

I'm still waiting on my July issue. I can't wait to read this one.

Well, DCF, the original post changed... originally, Moparhound said the car had been "restored to show condition". Not possible, as evidenced by the pics. Also, all the numbers off the car in the junkyard were removed, so it's likely a rebody somewhere, if it's not Ed's.

Hound, if the car in the article is Ed's wrong-color-pink car (his wife didn't like Panther Pink, the story goes, so he painted it a horrid GM metallic fuschia color), that would be very interesting--particularly since the car in the junkyard is not an original pink car. That would mean Ed's T/A has a bogus fender tag since his "real" pink car is coded FM3 with a black interior, and the car pictured was actually a B3 exterior with B5 interior that someone painted FM3 later in life.

Can't wait to see the article either... from what I know of Ed, he's a respectable, stand-up guy. But I have a hard time believing two Challenger T/As could have ended up in Turek's, never mind both of them being pink--factory or not.

Ed's wife’s car was done and on the road before that car was crushed. I have pics of Ed's wife’s car and they were taken before we ever saw that car at Tureks.

I work a few short miles away from Ed's place I think I will take a ride by there tomorrow on my lunch hour.

the plot thickens

wonder what that chally hit

whats this of a chally in "GM metallic fuschia color".....reason i ask is i "had" for some time a chally in amc pink metalic [smilie=e:

From the looks of the steering wheel and the rest of the car in general I wonder if someone was injured extremly bad or even worse. Should be a record of that somewhere. [smilie=e:

Thank You, I was about to call an optometrist...

Just went and looked at the article in question...

If there were two Challengers, in that yard, then they both had identical quarter panel damage, and were both sitting on identical gas tanks, as well...

ie. the pic in the article IS the car pictured above.

It just so happens that I worked with a former owner of that car. His dad sold it to the guy that wrecked it.
The story goes like this...

There where two guys out on an all night drinking fest and were headed west on us2 just east of Manistique. There were traveling at around 100 + M.P.H. when a family of three backed out of there drive way into the path of the Challenger. The two guys in the challenger survived, as did the Mother and Father in the car that backed out. There young daughter who was in the back seat of the car backing up was not as lucky. She was killed in the collision.

Ohh and Ryan’s dad sold it while it was still wearing its factory paint. I have seen pictures of it before it was pink. That car was simply stunning in ice blue paint!

I posted, then read the article closer, as it gets confusing, the way MCG presents the story. My revision occurred while you posted the pic's, if you check the time line. No biggie. [smilie=e:

Anyway......

Their is a junkyard pic of the car in the article, looks the same to me as the car in the pic's you posted.

Edit, adding: They refer to the current color as a "raspberry", and it is a GM color.

Not slingin' blame, old pal... you just posted what you saw. I'm sure the article is confusing--MCG has never been accused of great writing, and I'm sure the web of BS being slung about the car was tough to wade through for the writer. :D

A spy is supposedly cruising the back alleys of Gladstone as we speak. ;)
