Well, I'm laid up today recovering from some epidural shots in my lower back today so I had some free time to update this post.
I got the scope above but then the rifle deal fell through. I ended up getting a used bolt action rifle (.270 Win, Ruger M77 MKII) that already had a scope on it. While I was feeling a bit froggy, I went ahead and got a different rifle for the new scope. A Ruger Mini14 Ranch Rifle (.223 Rem) in the all weather stainless/synthetic combo.
I had to find the correct proprietary Ruger scope rings to fit the 30mm tube on the new scope. The ones that came with the rifle were for a standard 1" scope tube. This past Saturday I went up to Victoria, TX to a small gun show and found the correct rings there.
While I was cruising through the show I found some extra mags for the Mini14 as well. I picked up a black factory 20 rd mag, an aftermarket 20 rd mag and two aftermarket 30 round mags. These were all hand picked as the best fitting ones out of about a dozen different available mags. Always bring the gun you're shopping for to the gun shows so you can check stuff like that or you'll end up with some crappy parts from time to time. Some of those other mags fit
way too loose.
I also brought my Beretta 92FS pistol to look for a new barrel for it. I had no idea how many rounds had gone through the existing barrel since I bought it used. The only thing that I knew of it's history was that it had previously belonged to a MD cop. Police duty side arms usually see a considerable amount of use so I wouldn't be suprised if it had more than a quite a few thousand rounds through that barrel. This is(was) my 5th Beretta 92FS so I know how accurate they can be when in good shape. The grouping patterns were telling me this barrel was all shot out and needed to be replaced.
I couldn't find any barrels for the Beretta but one of the vendors there saw it strapped to my side in it's holster and inquired about it. I ended up trading my Beretta for his MAK 90 (Modified AK-47) with two 30 round mags and an upgraded Dragunov style synthetic stock.:giggedy:
When I got back from the show I drove out to the sporting goods store in Corpus and picked up some ammo for the Mini 14 (.223 Rem) and the MAK 90 (7.62x39mm). When I got back I mounted the new scope to the Mini using the new rings and boresighted it in.
The next day I brought both the Mini and the MAK out to the range. The scope works excellent and only took a few rounds to get it dialed in at 50 yards. The MAK is a different story altogether. It only has open iron sites and I can't get it to hit on center yet. I need a special front sight adjuster tool to pull the front pin over to the left a little bit. I can compensate for it by aiming a little off center by 3" and can then hit the center of the target repetedly. The best solution would be to add a side rail to the receiver so I can mount a scope like the Mini has. I've sound a few sources for the side rail and side mounts so I'll probably pick thoes up nest payday. I'm kinda broke after having to spend $400 on fixing the front brakes on the Ram this week. :doubt:
The first two pics are of the Mini and the MAK and all the extra mags.

The second pic is the side rail I'll need to add to the side of the MAK for the optics.
The last pics shows the Ruger M77 at the top and the Beretta I traded for the MAK at the bottom.
I'm planning on replacing the Beretta with a Taurus PT1911 .45ACP some time in the future. Gotta save up for that one though. The Ruger M77 and Mini 14 were compliments of Mr. Bush's Economic Stimulus Payment.
