Pass me some clean shorts please...

MyBigBlockDodge

Decided to take the Challenger for a ride around the block today and the battery was dead. [smilie=e: what the hell?? Get out the charger and I notice the it's not taking much of a charge. Check level in battery... good to go. Let it charge for about 2 hours and I get it started. Half way around the block I see a neighbor so I pull in and shut the car off. We talk for a few minutes and I hit the key and after one crank I hear what sounded like a 12 gauge going off under the hood...

One new battery please. [smilie=e:

Damn! I hope you hosed down everything right away!!! [smilie=2:[/quote]

Might as well, seeing that he already "hosed down" the front seat. :D

battery exploded? i have never heard of that one before ....guess i hang out here for some reason....to learn things

Yep, it was a NASTY mess under the hood. Fortunatly, the neighbor I was chatting with ran over and pulled his hose to the car. We managed to hose the entire front clip down within a few seconds so I think I should be ok on that.

Scared the crap out of me though :D

Well now we need to know what caused that so it doesn't happen again. Was the voltage regulator allowing an overcharge situation? If so there would have been pressurized flammable gases coming from the vent in the battery. If you had a loose connection at the battery when you cranked it could have sparked setting that battery gas off. I suppose it is possible the battery just shorted out and a twist of the key was all it took to set it off. I would still check for an overactive charging system. Better safe than sorry.

even though you hosed it down, I'd still make up a baking soda solution and wash it down again. Make sure it gets nuetralized in all the nooks and crannies.

I just used water so far, and another rinsing off at home once we pulled it back. Good idea on the baking soda. I'll mix some up first thing in the a.m.

So somehow Doc has found a way to embed chicken delight in batteries now? Fiendish I say, fiendish. What's next? you go out on a date with a volumptuous blond and while you're at the restaurant she gernades into propelled chicken pieces? [smilie=e:

Pierre......

Boss......

WHAT!!!!!!! NO!!!!!!!! TAKE YOUR OWN CAR!!!!!!! AND HURRY BACK!!!!"

Boss........

JASON!!!! GET BACK HERE AND CLEAN THIS UP!!!!!

* Boss walks away mumbling*

"I don't know whats with you guyz always screwing up making me stress."

Baking soda and water turns battery acid into salt.Better rinse it again-that stuff is nasty. [smilie=2:

Oh yeah. I washed it all down with a new parts brush and the soda solution then sprayed the crap out of the entire front clip... inside and out, top to bottom.

I'm gonna go pick up a new battery for it now. Hey Stretch, I'll do some checking on the charging system, but I have a feeling one cell shorted and when I put a load on it Blammo!! [smilie=e:
