Oops: FCA steps on Cummins trademark

FCA applied for a trademark on the term “recon” back in March 2015, for the Jeep Wrangler Recon concept.
After eight months, Cummins, which has owned the Recon trademark for reconditioned engine parts since 1965, challenged FCA’s application, filing its notice yesterday. The delay iseven longer if one considers that Jeep brought out its firstJeep Wrangler Recon back in 2013.
The dispute was found by engineer Steven St.Laurent, and is an oddity given that FCA and the Trademark Officeshould both be routinely checking for existing trademarks earlier in the process. The term “recon” is short for “reconditioned” for Cummins and “reconnaissance” for the Wrangler, but both are automotive terms. (...) →
