The kid can play dammit!
Sure, at 8, he lacks some feeling, but that will come.
For now, he's got a million-mile head start on a great career as long as he keeps his head on as straight as it is right now (the parents too).
I get the state's response: someone called it in, I gotta deal with it.
That sucks.
Whoever called it in is a douche. I hope they catch whoever it was.
I worried from the first video that the parents were driving him for their own gains, but listening to him respond to questions reminded me of my 8 year old nephew. That kid is fine, in my opinion.
The story of how he chose a guitar from a choice of three things, tells me he's doing it because he wants to do it.
The "you take lessons and practice" rule is all right by me, too. As long as it's still something that you want to do, then put your nose to the grindstone. Slack off, and you'll lose my support, but I won't force you to do what you don't want to do.
Heck, that's what happened with my daughter and her guitar. Never touched it other than during a half hour lesson each week. Not even just to have fun. I even tried to get her to play along together with me. No interest... So, lessons stopped and I play that guitar now. (Good thing it's blue and not pink.)
