Newbie Signing On!

Hey guys and gals. I was surfing the mopar sites and came accross this one. I just lucked out and got my 69 Dart GTS project car in the May issue of Mopar Muscle in the "Rare Finds" column. My car sat outside in Alabama 6 years and survived a tornado with the only thing happening to my car was the unbolted GTS hood beeing sucked off of it and being wrapped around a tree a half mile away. My car is in the GTS Registry and I had Galen Govier decode the fender tag. I got me a first day of production car. I love all Mopars and wanted to shout a big Texas hello to everyone. Great web site by the way!

Thats a pretty good one to start with-doesnt look too bad at all. From what Ive been told a dealership in Chicago did one to prove to the factory that it could be done and then they started producing them. Ever hear of Grand Spaulding Dodge? Ah the good old days. Welcome and glad to have another keeper of the faith. [smilie=e:

Oh mabeye mistress grungy farts hasnt, but the rest of us better have. So I take it from your username that its a 440 car? [smilie=e:

I use my same user name on those other sites as well. I'm 47 years old now, but when I was 16 years old I bought my first Mopar. It was a used 69 Charger R/T SE with a 440 magnum, 4 speed, and Dana rearend. Thus the name JOES4FORTY. My 69 Dart GTS is a LS23P9B or a 340 car. The car had some issues when I bought it. It had Duster bucket seats, a little and I mean little steering wheel, missing 340 and 727, a missing GTS hood, missing torsion bars, and LCA's that were welded to the k-frame. I have since replaced the GTS hood, replaced the bucket seats with some correct used ones, a correct woodgrain steering wheel, thumbwheel radio and bezel. I have a replacement k-frame, LCA's, torsion bars, and brand new brake components to stick back under the front end of the car. The car sits low as if it has an engine in it because of the welded LCA's. The floorboards are solid and the car has undercoating. I have a line on some dated coded 340's. I do have a search out for the original 340. It may be out there somewhere. The car has history from Alabama, Georgia, and Washington. So, roll the dice, maybe the 340 is out there somewhere. It would be nice to reunite the original 340 with its car.

I attached a URL to a photo of what my interior currently looks like. Thanks MOPARNUTS! JOE

I knew if more GTS owners started registering their cars with the GTS Registry we would find more first day of production cars. My car was the oldest in the GTS Registry of the 69 Dart GTS Hamtramck, Michigan built 340 cars for a while. There is a new addition to the GTS Registry and his VIN sequential number is way lower than mine. Check out the GTS Registry and look at the latest entry plus photo. I helped the guy decode his fender tag and get the car registered. His car was a red on red with a white GT Sport stripe car when new. And like my car his is a project car also. It's pretty cool to know that the first built GTS Darts are still out there and being found and saved. Conratulations are in order. Cool deal!

THANKS MOPARNUTS!

I was surfing another sight the other day and came accross another 69 Dart GTS for sale. I emailed the guy to get more information. I asked him about the fender tag and the VIN. He sent me the VIN number and I about fell over. I asked him to check it again. He sent me back his fender tag info and VIN. His car has a VIN way lower than mine. I told him to register his car on the GTS Registry and he did. Now his car takes the number one spot in the GTS Registry for the earliest known 69 Dart GTS 340 car to exist. His car too is a first day of production car with a sequential VIN lower than mine. Needless to say, his car is no longer for sale. I congratulated him on having the oldest 69 GTS registered in the USA. I told him to get Galen Govier to decode his fender tag and enter his car in Govier's Chrysler Registry. All I can say is they are out there. I didn't know mine was a first day of production car when I bought it. That was a added bonus. I don't mind stepping down to the number two spot. I love Mopars!

That is cool Joe! Good of you to give him the heads up too! Good man, have a beer! :) [smilie=a:
