New town, new direction

J.C. Corbett

or something.....
As of the first of the year, I may not be posting for a while. At that time, I'm moving to Reno, and starting over. I have lots of friends and family there, and plenty to do. Along with the move comes a new professional direction. My cousin who lives in Reno, and myself will be beginning production on a television program centering around the sport of team roping. The entire concept of the show is ours, and we will be doing most of the work. Lucky for me, my cousin has a degree in journalism, and a second in marketing. He's worked as a local news anchor, newspaper editor, and in radio, so he's familiar with the business of television production. The show will be fairly educational, with lessons and tips from top professional ropers, which will rely heavily on strategically filmed roping runs with the pro doing a voice over, analyzing and explaining the run for the audience. There will also be an ongoing segment where a farrier(horse shoer) will go in depth regarding horse foot health, problems one may run into, how to recognize them, address them, and correct them. We will also have an ongoing segment where a veterinarian discusses horse soundness, preventative maintenance, nutrition, and troubleshooting. Finally, we will have top horse trainers doing a tips & tricks segment. Even among the topics I've listed, this is just the tip, and the beginning. More will happen with this, and hopefully with time, we will find success, and possibly more opportunities because of it. Anyhow, I know this probably isn't too terribly interesting to post on a Mopar board, but I've been working on this quietly for months, and I'm finally able to get excited about it.

So you hoping for any particular network? CMT, Animal Planet, Spike TV or anything like that or just who ever takes the show? I'm not really into rodeos really but I'd give it a look or two once aired. :) Good luck with it man!! Glad to see a bright future open up for you so soon like this! Stop in when you can and good luck with everything!!!:helpme::bravo:

The plan is to begin on RFD tv, which is a satellite channel which has a lot of western programming on it. The main reason for starting there is that you can get sponsors to pay for the program, and simply submit it to the channel for airtime. If accepted by the network, it gets aired 4 times per week, giving you pretty good exposure. The idea is to grow and refine it on this channel in order to pitch it to a channel with higher viewership, be it CMT or the Outdoor Channel, and I'm sure there's some others I'm missing. Once the larger channel picks you up, you're selling your program to them(no more title sponsors), and they pick up their own advertising, allowing you more budget and time available to produce your show.

Sounds like you've found a niche market there. I've never seen anything like that before. Good luck with that and the move.

Yep yep, sounds like you have a plan. Arguing with half ton animals, hell of a way to earn a buck. I hope it works out for you.:2thumbs:

Sounds like you've got a lot covered in terms of content and keeping interested viewers coming back for more.

If only we could get a car show on the air that was close to that...
the best i can think of is Chop Cut Rebuild and that's usually a hit and miss affair as far as making it all the way through an episode.

Funny thing is, I got the whole idea of using a 2 host format, and fast moving 2-4 minute segments from the car shows. The goal is to have a finished product so well produced, and so polished, in terms of quality content, that viewers are going to want to tune in EVERY episode, and record it for future reference. That's what we're shooting for.:giggedy:

I appreciate all the well wishes, everyone. It feels good to have a structured plan, and be in a position to execute it. I put in my 30 days notice here at work yesterday, and then it's off to Reno. :giggedy:

Wow, the best of luck J.C.! That would be an interesting show/program. Hope it all works out for you. Keep us updated when you can and let us know when the show airs!
