The paint fumes have cleared so I'm
Meet Otto.
11 week old Merle coloured Great Dane.
We pick him up Saturday morning. Gonna have a full house - 18 year old son, 4 cats, 2 English Springer Spaniels and now this baby fella. [smilie=2:
My plan is to break him to a saddle and ride him to work.

your going to need a power shovel and food by the truckload....being a pink nose i gotta ask..hearing and eyesight all good?

Actually, Danes don't really eat that much in comparison to their size.

I still think you should have named him "Earl" though. :D

i only asked about the eyes n ears cause i know the pink nosed danes tend to have problems...good to know ya got a good one

His Mom is an easy 130 lbs, Dad is somewhere around 150+. Both un-registered pure breds, but that part doesn't matter to us.
Danes really don't eat huge amounts for their size. More than our Springers for sure, but he'll outweigh them by roughly 105 lbs, so it's to be expected. The cost of pet food is already high in this house, they all get premium Nutrience.

The white Danes can have eye and ear issues, but the other colours seem to be generally fine, for the most part. The big thing is bloat, where the stomach twists and death follows shortly. Big issue in any large dog, Danes and Hounds are quite susceptible. Surgery to eliminate the problem is roughly $1200. Gonna have to save for that one!

A bigger shovel...? I'm thinking maybe a front end loader. :)

He's so friggin' cute!

Isn't hip dysplasia a big issue with Danes as well (later in life)?

He's a beautiful dog. I absolutely love the markings.

Me too. Thanks to you Doc, every time I look at the pics I see oil splatters. :)

Hip Dyspasia can be an issue with most average to larger sized dogs, Danes included.
