Need some advice/info...long...sorry

OK here it is.

I've had one form of 69 RR ever since I was in high school. It was always the one I wanted more than any other car. They have been "improving" (in quotes because it depends on how you guage improvment..in my book means getting cleaner and closer to factory) with each one, from a rust bucket to the present show-winning convertible.

Now I've got the hankering to "move up" again. I want a minty fresh 440 vert GTX. But since I've been out of the purchasing game for so long, I don't know if this is an itch I can scratch. I can only afford one car at a time, which means selling my present car. A car that took me years to find. I worry about spending years without Mopar muscle in the garage and then that the prices will spiral out of control while I look.

The most important question:

Are the prices for GTX verts vs. RR 383 verts comprable? I don't want to sell my car then have to come up with another wad of cash...

I know Mopar prices have been going crazy lately, but I'm not an investor in these things...like most of you, I actually like owning and driving my car... so I'm not up on the latest price madness...

Thanks for any advice... and no...I'm still just thinking about this, so the car is not for sale yet...smilie=boobies.gif]

They made a lot fewer GTXes than roadrunners, but there doesn't seem to be a big price difference, at least not with the 70 models.

So I don't think your difficulty is going to be the price increase, but more that it might be hard to find a drop-top GTX.

The only drop top B Ive ever owned was a 69 coronet 500. It was a fun car. Ive owned 2 GTXs- 70 first and then a 69. The 70 was auto and there always seemed to be something that needed attention. The 69 on the other hand was 4sp dana and was twice the car IMO. The prices on complete cars have gone crazy lately so keep that in mind when you look for a replacement. Ive had 11 runners since I got out of the army in 77 and NEVER paid more than 500 dollars for any of them. The GTXs on the other hand seem to cost more. [smilie=e: [smilie=e:

Thanks for the response. I have a top notch "complete car" that I can use to pay for the GTX. And believe me, I know how hard it is to find a good one. The pic is here in this thread:

I think I should be able to get something for it, so that I only have to throw a few grand at the GTX. How much are drop-top GTXs vs. Drop-top RRs going for these days? And I mean top-of-the-line examples, not restorables.

While the GTX should command more, the interest in all forms of runners will minimize any real differences in coin and in some instances the shaved bird will fetch more if its got odd plumage.

Good to know! It's not really odd, except for maybe having both the big side stripes and the hood stripes as well as the rare am/fm option. A/C would have been great, but alas, not there.

Living in Miami, A/C would be a welcome option in the new wheels. Not that it has really been a problem until now, but it would make the occasional summer drive possible. Right now I just park it from June to September since it's easily over 100F if you sit in traffic.

What makes my bird rare is the fact that I am only the third owner, it has under 70K original miles on it, no rust on the original metal, and lots of paperwork. Plus it's MINT.

The new car has to be in as good or better shape and pedigree.

(drool) I am sure you can get a great buck for your car, but alas, I know no figure. :)

Thanks! The figure doesn't really matter, what matters is that it be close to the figure the other one needs.

I know e-body ragtops in this shape are bringing stupid money, but I can't imagine b-bodies costing even half what e-bodies are going for.

68 vert prod. RR=0,GTX=1026,69 RR=2128,GTX=625,70 RR=824,GTX =I can't remember.........the highest production# is the 68 GTX,and they also seem to be the most sought after, and obviously you had no choice in '68,as no RR 'verts were built,to me '69 shows the trend at the time was for cheap muscle as they made twice as many RR's in all styles in 69 but only 625 'vert X's.........2-3 years ago 70 Plymouth B body's were bringing more than they are now,the interest went back to the 68's whose prices peaked above the 70's for awhile, the 69's will alway's be the cheaper of the 3 I believe. If the current market prices of B and E body continues,I think they are on the way down,I'm gonna' stick my neck out and say ,they are gonna' tank, this summer, compared to what they have been,

Sounds like a plan. I could do an Ebay test and see what happens, but I remember getting really pissed off everytime I came across a great car with an astronomical reserve (obvious owner testing the waters) so I probably won't do that.

There's always waiting till next year and getting a "BJ" out in Arizona.
